I honestly believe that Robin never, ever expected to meet one of the faceless 'others' whom that legislation would effect (or someone who knows them personally, as in this case).

I suspect that it has never occurred to her before that things she says or votes for has any effect beyond herself. It is to her credit that she's clearly embarrassed by this experience. I would have lost all hope for her if she'd doubled down (like some of the people Zoe has met over the years) and said something to Joyce like: "When you grow up, you'll realise that she brought it on herself."

Something to keep in mind is that Leslie was there at the rally and saw the whole incident between Amazi-Girl, Sal, and the creeps. For example, she saw this, where one of DeSanto's people blames Amazi-Girl for the whole thing. So Leslie may think that Dorothy asking this question would make things worse rather than better.

Ruth doesn't seem like one for pet names so, yes, I think that she's offering Billie to share her pudding with her. Which is cute and possibly the first time I've seen a sweet 8-year-old looking out of Ruth's eyes.

It's more like Billie needs to get some help on her own issues. Right now she's just going out of her way trying to start fights with people. And while Mary may have been deserving a smack down, the one Billie is really trying to hurt is herself. She's just trying to drag everyone around her down to do it.

My prediction is that Billie isn't going to be interested in a non-miserable Ruth. Billie wants someone to validate and commiserate in her misery and self-destruction. A healthy Ruth is anathema to what Billie wants in a relationship.

Or she could be a catalyst for Billie finally seeking help with her own issues.  I hope that that's the case and she doesn't run in terror from the new Ruth.

I've been where Ruth is. Recovery can be scary. When all you've ever known is pain and sadness, experiencing anything else is off-putting. When i first started recovery I was afraid to leave behind my misery cos I was afraid I wouldn't know who I was without it. I've always had trouble trusting positive emotions/situations cos I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I empathise with this a lot.  Ruth's emotional state right now hits close.

Misery can be weirdly comforting, especially when it's all you've known for a long time.

It was hardly an ideal outcome in terms of its consequences for Ruth but, yes, IMO it did more good than bad. I'm pretty sure that Carla's... mindset was probably more a source of Billie's anger than anything else.

We have seen positive aspects so far. Though I expect this is going to send Billie into a downward spiral of feeling Ruth doesn't need her anymore, and in fact she was the one holding her back. But we still have not seen the other shoe drop, where Ruth loses her RA job. Possibly has to leave school and returns to the situation that caused her depression to begin with.

She might not. Considering the pace of this comic, she may very well have both lost it and not lost it for all of 2017.

I'm pretty sure she lost her job when it came out that she was in a relationship with one of her charges. The RM was just delaying telling her while she was still in the hospital. Or it's possible that they are waiting to hear Ruth's defense... but I think it's pretty clear there is no defense. I suppose it's theoretically possible she could be kept on, but moved to a different building. But that would only be because someone went to bat for her and probably called in favors. And even then it's a good thing nobody reported on their drinking. If that comes out, I don't even think the RM vouching for her would stop them from giving Ruth the boot.

You know, I really feel bad for Leslie here. She's pretty obviously quite lonely (probably baggage from her non-marriage) and things like that can make someone get desperate and think things that aren't likely or healthy.

I don't think Becky could have come up with a 'reassuring statement' better planned to send Dina running away from her screaming if she'd tried to achieve that end deliberately!

What is more, she now has her very own delusional paranoid narcissistic nemesis who will doubtless go to endless lengths to persecute the woman who set her up to be fired so she could 'steal' her job. Not that Sydney needs much motivation to stalk someone and put together a scratch gang to try to destroy them (including physical violence) but this particular chain of events won't help much.
