Sure this _is_ racist but it just has to be said. The 100 meter dash is an _inferior_ dash* and I just don't care if people know how I feel about that race.

*Rainbow Dash is best dash.

Saying that the Indy 500 is better than NASCAR is much more racist; you're more likely to cause a riot.

But it doesn't have the word dash so no My Little Pony joke.

The original My Little Pony was better...

Emily and Marten are the only people that we know of outside of her family. (The rest of the list is Clairemom and Clinton - we don't even know if her dad knows.)
What do we know, if anything, about "Gus" (you know that's got to be the nickname his peers hung one him in college or the military) Augustus, Claire and Clinton's dad?  I don't recall a strip when Claire ever talked about him, but I've not kept notes, either.

I do recall her discussing being accustomed to looking after her own safety with Clinton.  I suspect Claire has a black belt.

That he cheated on Clairemom, and they got a divorce. And Claire's sensitive about that.

Well, I guess whatever Faye did to Pintsize (presumably Faye anyway) wasn't serious and he just needed to be turned on/rebooted. On the other hand... I've never seen Pintsize intimidated before.

Is this the first time we have seen Marten preemptively deal with Pintsize? If so that speaks well for the future of the good ship Clairten.

The art in the loom panel is particularly good. Even Marten's eyes which have been creepy as of late work in that drawing.

Aww maaan... Pintsize is that easily intimidated? What happened to the guy who sent out pictures of equine molestation as a greeting? And what the hell is Marten threatening him with? (Isn't threatening to turn off an AnthroPC permanently like threatening to kill a sentient being?)

That's one powerful loom.

I don't think any bodily or mental harm was intended with the loom, Swapna. A cross look between friends often just means 'I am going to be very mad', and we know Pintsize does value Marten's friendship. There are probably lines he wouldn't cross if they'd meant enough to Marten.

LOOOOOM!

Also, good to see Pintsize back on his feet.

Darn, I had a script in my head with Claire and Pintsize interacting, but it was too dialogue-heavy and Jeph can't read minds, so we get today's strip instead.  Still...

SCENE: Marten's living room.  He's left the room, CLAIRE is on the couch.  PINTSIZE wanders over.
PINTSIZE: Marten's really into you, you know.  I can tell.
CLAIRE: How?
PINTSIZE: Because he's absolutely terrified I'll say something offensive and will NOT. STOP. THREATENING ME with all kinds of punishment if I don't stay on my best behavior.  Afraid of losing you, I guess.  He was never like this with Dora...
CLAIRE: *blushes*
PINTSIZE: ...But he won't say WHY.  Now, I've got a vast collection of porn stored in here-- *taps head* --but you don't show up in any of it...
CLAIRE: Um...
PINTSIZE: ...although there are a few really weird folders I haven't checked yet.  Horses, donkeys, pooping catgirls.  You want some privacy, I get that, just say the word and I'll delete them, sight unseen.  I suppose there are some boundaries I can respect...
CLAIRE: I'm TRANS.
PINTSIZE: Oh.  That's it?
CLAIRE: Uh-huh.
PINTSIZE: And Marten thinks I'm going to tease you for that?  Listen, I'm a robot, gender's just streams of coding to me.  I may take pride in being crude, but I'm not completely insensitive.  You don't have anything to worry about from me.
CLAIRE: Thanks, Pintsize.
PINTSIZE: But, uh, I don't want Marten to think I'm losing my touch, so feel free to throw me against the wall when he gets back.
CLAIRE: What?  No!  I wouldn't do that!
PINTSIZE: Oh, good.  Thanks.
CLAIRE: *smiles*
PINTSIZE: Still wanna make out?
CLAIRE: *throws Pintsize against the wall*

...And that's why Jeph is the cartoonist and I'm just here on the forums.

Warning - while you were typing 15 new replies have been posted. You should really just give up now.

Keep in mind that Claire didn't know about Faye's violent streak during that scene.

Now she does, and she also knows that Faye's been through hell recently.

IDK, I guess I miss sassy Claire. In my head canon, Claire's had to develop a barbed tongue to defend herself and her brother, because of her gender identity, his general weirdness, and whatever family dynamics led to her instant judgment of Tai. The meekness is weird to me, because it doesn't match her age in my head (she's in an MA program) or her earlier personality. Playing the ingenue doesn't suit her.

*His* weirdness?  (meaning Clinton) She's (meaning Claire) odd enough on her own, and that has nothing to do with her gender identity.

Edited for clarity.

Actually, I find her character pretty normal. Maybe a little socially inept, but over all well adjusted. No - Hannelore is weird... but in a good way.

I don't think that it's a matter of him being intimidated. Instead I think it's a matter of him understanding just how grave a violation of trust and personal space it would be for him to pursue that particular topic. I mean the little guy might be a bit of a sadist who enjoys messing with people, but he's not without decency, and he does actually care about Marten and his friends, albeit in his own strange way sometimes. :P

Plus there's the fact that Marten rarely draws a line with Pintsize. Because of that, on the rare occasion that Marten does put his foot down, Pintsize probably understands that he's super duper serious, and he'd better not push it. lol

And just look at how happy the little guy is!
Forget Pintsize, look at Marten.

I think the "his weirdness" was in reference to Claire's brother.  Not someone misgendering Claire.

Sorry! I was referring to her brother being weird. I'm thinking about Claire having to constantly protect/defend her bro because of Clinton's magic ability to alienate people.

ETA: Like, Claire's got her quirks, but Clinton actually pisses people off. I see Claire as someone who's got enough spunk to say "Hey, my bro is a douche but only I get to insult him!" to her friends and his... frenemies?

IT'S A DREAM! PINTSIZE IS REALLY IN ROBOT HEAVEN (OR HELL)!!!

......

......

......

Just kidding. But I really would like to know what the hell happened to him. Also, the use of perspective and colors is trippy (in a good way). Wonder what he was going to ask her?

Especially the chill guys.  We store intimidation points for later use.  All humans naturally generate intimidation points, and while some people increase the generation rate, some of us make use of the fact that there is no cap on your reserves.  Nerd Rage uses a similar mechanic.

Incidentally, someone asked a couple of pages back (or maybe last week or something) about how much Claire knew about Faye's back story. Go back one comic from the one above.

Because of that, on the rare occasion that Marten does put his foot down, Pintsize probably understands that he's super duper serious, and he'd better not push it. lol

Does Pintsize even know Claire is transgendered? Aside from the paddling (the only known instance that Claire has met Pinysize), has Marten even told Pintsize this fact?

IDK, I guess I miss sassy Claire. In my head canon, Claire's had to develop a barbed tongue to defend herself and her brother, because of her gender identity, his general weirdness, and whatever family dynamics led to her instant judgment of Tai. The meekness is weird to me, because it doesn't match her age in my head (she's in an MA program) or her earlier personality. Playing the ingenue doesn't suit her.

It doesn't feel that out of character to me. I feel like Claire has always had both a sassy, snarky side and a more shy, vulnerable side, which come out in different situations. That's part of what I relate to about her character, because I also tend to swing between those types of behavior depending on the situation I'm in.

Oh, he's alive.

Y'know, funny thing is, I can't actually imagine Pintsize doing anything to deserve whatever happened to him. He's a little troll, sure, but he always tried to help Marten when the guy felt down.

Mind, he wasn't good at it, but he always tried, and I can't imagine him (Deliberately) angering Faye, given the current circumstances.

Which is...problematic. Friends don't break friends.

Friends don't break friends.

It's a good thing that he doesn't seem to be broken, then. Or affected at all, for that matter.
