Okay, thought I'd challenge the board with a true opinion poll this time! I tried to keep the options true-to-character; tell me how I did!

This week will go one of three ways:

• We stick with Sam's trip to the computer store (with Marigold on hand as technical adviser - Remember, she's a wire-head and a real expert about these things);
• We snap back to Marten and Claire and see where they're going;
• We see how the last few months have treated everyone else.

In the event of option 2, I wonder if they're going to meet up with someone... Maybe Veronica and Jim? After all, Sam is out of the house so a party free of kids is possible. In the event of option 3, my bet is Faye and Bubbles.

Also, I feel like that specific phrasing, 'So long and thanks for all the x is owned by Douglas Adams, in spirit if not fact, and I have too much reverance for that man to encroach on his comedic turf.

However, what could it be? Shipping seems to be a major fan-rage generator. Have a couple broken up (Jim and Veronica, for example)? Have a couple got back together (I could construct at least one scenario where Angus came crawling back to Faye)? Have a couple not broken up (some folk seem to want Dora and Tai to split up in a painful fashion)?

I think it'll be something to do with Sam's foray into Youtube videos. Her choice of game, maybe, or the type of microphone she gets. It's something Jeph thinks men are more likely to get upset about than women though, judging by the turn of phrase. Though plenty of women throw hissyfits about nonsensical things too, so I am unsure.

Not that I buy into it but if they are only engaged Claire would be wearing a ring but Marten wouldn't necessarily. Still, as much SQUEEE as it would be I don't really think it would be best for the story.

I tend to assume that any relationship in QC is ultimately doomed. So a Marten-Claire engagement seems unlikely, unless it's to set up an eventual ultimate Marclairepocalypse.

I would imagine that since when he started writing QC Jeph was more or less in Martens age group which can be an emotionally charged relationship mine field he wrote the comic with that mindset. However as we get older inevitably our social circle begins to pair off, get married, and have children. This also has somewhat been reflected in QC. I would not put it out of the realm of possibility for some of the characters to find their "forever partners" whether they have already remains to be seen.

'Whiny' is the wrong word. Luke is 'whiny' in Episode IV. Kylo Ren is more 'Entitled with tendency for tantrums.' You should actually check out the movie. I hesitate to say it makes up for the prequels, but it's good enough to atone for at least one of those shit shows.

Regarding QC suggestions, I most like the Claire-Marten engagement theory, though I don't see it causing 'entitled man-boy tears.' I like it because it opens a whole new world of comedy and drama. It sets up for a bunch of interesting introductions, like between Claire's family and Veronica, with Clinton averting his eyes and pretending he doesn't recognize her, and Veronica being very frank about why he might, only for Clairemom to be just as candid. Then we'd slowly get to see the relationship implode, because like Cesium, I kind of assume every relationship is doomed, but that would lead to Claire, the ex-wife, and that could be interesting in a dark sort of way, especially if they decide for some godforsaken reason to adopt a child, which would allow Jeph to hit that spectrum of jokes (Oh god, Pintsize + baby) without breaching his 'no-pregnancy' promise. Like I said though, I find it hard to imagine that the comic introducing that kind of long, complicated arc might induce 'entitled, man-boy tears.' I could definitely see an entitled, trans-phobic man-boy clicking off the comic and never coming back, maybe bitching somewhere about how it's totally oppressive to him as a straight, 'normal' male to recognize that these things exist, but tears? I don't know.

Frankly, that's what throws me off about predicting this altogether, the 'tears' bit. 'Entitled' and 'man-boy' would suggest it's connected to the let's play arc, seeing as most entitled man-boys consider themselves gamers (though not all gamers are either of these things) but that arc seems too recent to be already causing tears. I could imagine that happening later, once it's established more fully, and they're already playing, but they haven't even gotten mics yet!

That would be great.

I'm just not super keen on Star Wars in general. I never saw the prequels, so I can't judge on them. If it's on at a friend's house, I'll watch it maybe.

l fervently hope it's not an engagement. They haven't been together all that long, and even cohabitation seems a bit of a stretch. I think Claire will want to have her career in order before a husband and children. She is sensible, and Marten  doesn't seem to be that foolish either.

Well, maybe, but it's hard to say. There hasn't been any significant shown interaction between the two, and I don't know if "dad's girlfriend" would really have that much of an effect, initially. I could be wrong through. Of course, it could be Sam's inherent personality, encouraged by all her adult influences. Chad had best be careful, or the war ladle may make an appearance.

FWIW, whilst I've met people who make gender-based assumptions about interests, I've never seen that extended to hardware purchases. I'm guessing that this is one of those "parody through exaggeration" things.

Can't say I've experienced it personally, being male and all, but I've seen it happen. I think age plays into it, that salespeople like this Chad fellow think it's more okay to be openly sexist with a girl they see as a child. Problems arise when the client in question is just afflicted with baby face.

I've experienced it purchasing tools and bicycle parts, though it wasn't quite as explicit as Chad in the comic. There's some comedic exaggeration sure, but not that much.
