After giving it a long, hard think, I finally *got* todays strip. Too long and hard to think it's funny anymore. Maybe there are too many metaphorical levels in this.

They may have called it "yesterday's comic" since I screwed up and mentioned it a day early. I'll take the blame for that, and I've learned my lesson. But I went and looked at lots of cat gifs, and I feel better now.

This may not be the spot for this comment since it's more generic than specific to the current week's arc. So somebody tell me where it should have gone if you wish.

My comment is this (and I've been thinking this for many years of QC). How the hell does Jeph manage to come up with such a compelling story and quality daily strips day after day? I read many other quality strips and there are always occasional arcs of weakness or irrelevancy. But not here. Every day I read the strip and I'm never disappointed. It's unnatural. He's superhuman.

This is one time I wish QC was animated. I want to see how Renee approached. Was she like, at the other end of the counter and just slid on down. Or was she under the counter and slooowly raised herself up when she heard Roko talking. My money is on the latter due to the rule of funny.

Also, people have been wondering when Roko and Elliot will meet. There you go. Now all we need is some overly contrived reason how Elliot loses his shirt or raises it up so Roko can see his human abs and cause the poor girl to collapse. Roko.exe has encountered a sexy error and shut down.

Tara Strong is the voice of, like, everyone, unless it's Wendee Lee. At least as of around the turn of the decade, I haven't heard either of them recently that I can recall.

Tara as Presea in Tales of Symphonia is what her voice I hear on my head.

Well, here we see Trooper Basilisk failing on 'inconspicuous' and 'subtle'. I'm guessing that this is why she's never made full detective!

Seriously, though, everything that I'm seeing here suggests that this is something that she's never done before. With everything that's happened to her recently, I think that her need has been amplified to the point where she's finally taking the plunge and going for it, whether or not she's got someone to share with her. Still, for her, going into a bakery is close to going to a sex shop and it's genuinely funny to see her reacting to bread the way a teenage boy would to his first sight of hardcore stuff.

Oh, I love that nervous smile in panel 5!

Well, the AI version of Tinder that paired Roko with Pintsize apparently had a checkable option in the profile generation page for 'likes baked goods in non-culinary ways' so I'm guessing the answer to that is 'yes'!

FWIW, I suspect it's a combination of scent triggering their pleasure subroutines and also something to do with how the texture of bread causes their dermal contact sensors to respond.

This is something I actually quite like in this universe, that the AI's have utterly non-sequitur fetishes. I'd be interested to learn how this developed. I mean, is it some random repeating "bug" in the code? Does some programmer throw a dart at a giant wall of encyclopedia entries and then program in whatever he lands on for each AI? (Or does the AI code itself do that "virtually", when the AI is born?)

And I'm quite sure this has been discussed at length, but what was Roko's problem with Pintsize then, since he came exactly as advertised, which she "swiped right" on in the first place? Was it just the inappropriate venue, him doing it in the very public restaurant, since she's basically "in the closet" about her fetish?

Roko doesn't want just a casual hook-up or sexual encounter. As she explained to O'Malley, she wants a relationship with an emotional and personal connection too. Pintsize made it abundantly clear that he was only interested in doing something kinky, transgressive and physical with Roko there and then.
