WELP.  Lemon may be more put together and 'normal,' but she is definitely part of the same series that Melon is from!

Well, Melon and Lemon are sisters. They come from a big family, Lemon states that she has 2,048 of them!

I think May is a bit high on her new body and really wants to show off a bit...however it seems she is forgetting a few manners .
May?

...Maybe it's an effective grounding technique, but that's like singing someone to sleep and then screaming in their ear.

Well, what do you know - looks like Lemon is not completely hopeless at her job after all.    :-)

Though it's looks like Roko was already back in her body by panel 4 thanks to the mindfulness grounding exercise. So the dumpster goo probably wasn't necessary. That said, smelling salts were a strong unpleasant smell, right? Is this a modern equivalent?

She's not wrong, you know...smelling salts work on the same principle and smells are often a huge factor in triggering memories which helps to shock the brain into focusing on other things causing the episode to end.

Seriously, I still can't stand the smell of root beer after 32 years due to it being used to put me under for major surgery...same with bubblegum :(

She didn't forget, she happily chose to not use them...plus she's about a gruff and mannerless as you'll ever see among characters so I doubt she cares about manners in the first place

Deleted? No. Never had them to begin with, or got overridden by her lack of impulse control.
Personally, I hope being embodied amd around other individuals - both fleshy and not - her edges will grind down to an acceptable level.

So, we see the skill set that Lemon brings to her job and shows that, a Fruit Sister or not, she's a lot more mature than Melon and knows the differences between objective reality and whatever subjective world she may occasionally choose to occupy! It looks like it did a lot of good for Roko and, honestly, from what I understand of the human equivalent condition, having an effective coping strategy ready to go under all circumstances is probably the best outcome Roko can really hope to have except in the very longest terms.

She's not wrong, you know...smelling salts work on the same principle and smells are often a huge factor in triggering memories which helps to shock the brain into focusing on other things causing the episode to end.

I suspect that Lemon uses that stuff as a shock to bring her patient out of their centring/grounding trance. As you say, it's also a very good way of reminding their brains that they are definitely connected to their body.

So... Vial of stuff found in a dumpster! Why it's a tube of Kerbal Space Program Mystery GooTM! That stuff is an invaluable scientific environmental condition test material! I wonder who dumped that test-tube of the stuff and how much trouble they're going to get in for losing it?

Also... Beeps? No. That way madness and possibly addiction lie.

I'm really curious if theres actually 2048 different fruits - or if they had to switch the naming scheme at some point.

I mean Melon and Lemon are pretty straigthforward, but after that ?

While everyone is suggesting Lemon used them as smelling salts,
but we do have to remember she is the same model as her sister Melon... who likes smelling drain cleaners, cooking paint cans, skunk odours and didn't think anything of putting a dead squirrel under her nose as a fake moustache!

Good point, Lemon may well have thought she was offering Roko a really delightful smell she found. It would make sense then that she bothered to scrape some up and keep it when she encountered it, which is a bit puzzliing otherwise (but she is Melon's sister, so puzzling behaviour is on-brand) - she probably wanted to use it as an air freshener or something!

Poor Roko....

Lemon and Melon are definitely related.

i miss the days when Roko said "FAHK" instead of "FUCK"

Could be a sign of improvement.  She’s not so stressed out by all this that she’s slipped into her Bostonian accent.

New comic.

Lemon gives pretty good advice, Roko shouldn't think in absolutes. After all, only a Sith does that.

"But doctor, it feels so good when I stop hitting my head against the wall!"

Also, secondary thing--does it bother anyone else that Lemon has 2048 sisters, rather than 2047? That means there are 2049 FROOTS™ in total, which isn't a power of two.

It isn't.  However, Beeps is definitely a less realistic face than Lemon or Roko.  Note the difference in profiles

Ama the salesgirl seems to be the same type.  [ur=https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=4323l]Millefeuille is also[/url].  Certainly a more realistic face than Pintsize & co., or Jeremy and Seven, or Melon's roomate who's name escapes me.  Or Punchbot.

Back in day there was some speculation that Pintsize's mouth was drawn on a screen of some sort, but I think the only genuine screenface would be the old iPod Winslow.

All joking aside, this is actually an issue that pro wrestlers have when they leave one promotion or another. A name is only "owned" by a company if it's created by them. Your given name isn't owned by them, they legally can't bar you from using it. They can bar you from presenting as being part of a family or associated with a company, but they can't bar you from using your own name.

Just because you don't have a physical representation of a nose does not mean that you don't have olfactory sensors in your face or elsewhere on your head...

Can someone tell me when Beepatrice and Lemon swapped personalities because the stunt that Beeps is pulling right now is something I'd expect from Lemon or Melon, not from a certain quiet and insecure test equipment observer! That said, Roko has gained another bit of evidence to convince her subconscious that this is definitely her body: Traumatic scent memory. She'll probably be flashing back on that odour for months!

Meanwhile... Yeah, this sucks for Roko but issues like this can't be easily 'cured'. As I posted yesterday, the real optimistic most Roko can hope for is coping strategies based on awareness of what triggers episodes and a knowledge of how to 'reset' herself rather than just lapse into a sort of panic attack. 'Fixing' thing is a long-term goal and not a certain one.

Interesting speculations, all.  Buuuuuut.  What does Beeps smell with?  Her body draws her face on a screen at will, so there's no physical nose...

Just because she doesn't have a nose, doesn't mean that Beepatrice doesn't have olfactory sensors. They may even be externally-mounted like an insect's antennae.

Yeah, uhhh.... not sure that explanation was entirely necessary.

Just a thought, but perhaps the olfactory sensors are also necessary for her other job. Over X rpm, the trademark scent is starting to get burnt overtones. or some such. User experience and all that.

Your given name isn't owned by them, they legally can't bar you from using it. They can bar you from presenting as being part of a family or associated with a company, but they can't bar you from using your own name.

One wrestler traded his trademarked nickname for a tryout deal so they could use nickname for the Undertaker.

He didn't pass the tryout. But they got through trademark.

Seems like more than one mark in that Story!

The whole doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different outcome at some point has politician/bureaucrat written all over it.

A good/bad real world example in my local news is that the Toronto Police services board is increasing the number of mobile crisis teams since they have been doing so well up till now ........  :psyduck:

Where were we again?

Oh right - doing the same thing repeatedly hoping for a different result

I thought Beeps has just a very flat face.

Is it ironic that she has to go into Airplane Mode to get grounded?

Yes, I just went through the registration process and made an account just to make that lame joke to you all.
I can sympathize with that.

I suspect that's one of those oft repeated but often underexplored memetic pop-opinions people tend to repeat. Like 'I hate country music' or 'black licorice is gross'[1]. Fun fact, I've given folks[2] who say they hate black licorice black licorice[3] and they actually liked it. Two of them straight up asked me what it was because they'd never tasted it before.

[1] I'll agree if we're talking about that counterfeit trash Twizzlers brand markets as such. It's as much black licorice as their chocolate licorice is chocolate.
[2] I asked to make sure they didn't have any food allergies first.
[3] Real black licorice. Both Redvines and Wiley Wallaby.

"But doctor, it feels so good when I stop hitting my head against the wall!"

Also, secondary thing--does it bother anyone else that Lemon has 2048 sisters, rather than 2047? That means there are 2049 FROOTS™ in total, which isn't a power of two.

How about this possibility? There are 2047, Lemon knows it, but to her saying 2048 is just a matter of rounding up? Like we ten-fingered organisms would describe a crowd of 999 as a thousand people?

That's an amusing possibility.

Which would mean that there might not even be 2047 sisters. There might be 2035. Or even 1999.
