Credit for the poll idea and first four options go to flondrix. I tried not to get carried away, so I limited myself to three adfitions and two puns.

DISCLAIMER: We know Jeph doesn't read the forums, so please don't freak out in the event of pure coincidence if any of these variations or puns pop up. The puns I came up with weren't even remotely difficult to come up with, so another experienced punster could easily come up with them on their own.

Those ones where great, especially when that techniques got applied to video. Freakiest one was the casino clip from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas which was already mind bending at the best of times.

I don't think dogs attach the same importance to names as we do. They just want treats, regular walks and meals, and belly rubs.

...

Actually, that would make me pretty happy too.

It's a borzoi. I'm sure it's fine with it. But, yes, agreed.

I swear, with every successive strip, Yay gets cuter!

Re the poll: "Other" - I can imagine an "advanced" (incomprehensibly advanced :-D) being like Yay getting depressed by the sheer mundaneness of everything - you know, "brain the size of a planet" and all that...
And so, therefore... Marvin  Yay!  :-D

(And no, I didn't notice the pun in the name until I'd written it down )

Noir Yay has already been done--in the character's original appearance.

I swear, with every successive strip, Yay gets cuter!

Is there a term for a character trying to be androgynous but being too femme-cute to pull it off?

(Curvy-busty characters who try for androgynous are usually classified as "butch," correctly or not.  I'm talking about someone like Yay who has the body to pass as androgynous, but is just too gosh darn cute.)

My wife's mother is a sweet, capable, gentle, kind, warm, intelligent woman and being complimented is utter torture for her. My wife tells me she was like this all through her childhood and growing up. She even has difficulty with someone thanking her for something: she's gracious, but if you know her well you can see the twinge of pain.

I wonder if it's a built-in personality thing, or if there's a back story to it. I don't think we'll ever know.

My wife's a bit like this, but not to the same degree.

My own parents (and myself for that matter, hopefully) are fine people, but not nearly as warm as she is -- if someone compliments or thanks us, it's no problem. It's just like "Hey, thanks/your welcome!" or whatever and life goes on. Maybe we just don't feel things as much?

I would definitely not want a pet who had the mind of my cat but who could actually beat me in a fight. The only reason at least one of my cats didn't kill me ages ago is cause I'm a lot bigger than he is.

We're talking about a species that often needs an anti-anxiety dog assigned to it in captivity (typically golden retrievers) or some other means of anxiety relief.

Wikipedia claims they are easily tameable.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheetah

Cheetahs and Servals are ones that are supposedly very tameable...cheetahs just tend to, specifically, have nervous issues.

I think that the asiatic cheetah is the one with the least of them...they're mainly because, as a species, the cheetah is basically a glass canon with their hunting strategy, and pretty much every other predator near their size category will kill them as well and do steal kills from them. The asiatic has less competition, so isn't as high strung about looking for problems.

Having a dog with them, or handlers that they're used to, means they aren't quite as paranoid because they aren't looking on their own there.
