LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem

I just picked that up a couple weeks ago. :)
Its been nestled nicely in my disc changer ever since.  It took the place of the mp3 comp. I made of them and its practically the same playlist...

Also recently purchased:
Tortoise - Its all around you
Califone - Heron King Blues
DJ Shadow - In Tune and On Time
The Notwist - Different Cars and Trains
(A couple decent console remixes, but not much more)
The Dining Rooms - Tre
The Gotan Project - La Revancha del Tango
UNKLE - Never Never land

I'll be going on a road trip soon and a trip to the local music store is mandatory.  I'll be using this thread for suggestions. :)

Not an album, but I just ordered the Taint/Army Of Flying Robots split 7", the new Boris picture disc 7" and the Orthrelm/Trencher 5". I wasn't planning on buying any more records for a while, but that lot is just too essential to pass up!

Recently acquired-

L'Ame Immortelle - Fallen Angel MCD
The Decemberists - 5 Songs
The Arcade Fire self-titled

Quote from: Johnny C
Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman, I'm A Machine.

An album that was unfairly left off of a lot of "Best Of 2004" lists.

This is awesome.

Defiance, Ohio - Share What Ya Got.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Ultimate collection.
Clinic's three EPs collection.

Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery island.
Josh Rouse - nashville.
Rufus Wainwright - Want Two and a Rarities colection.
Set Fire to Flames - Telegraphs in Negative / Mouths Trapped in Static.

And I have ordered Meneguar and Ghost Mice records. Hurray!

I have several LPs sitting next to me right now that I won't be able to play till the weekend. They are:
Jack Rose-Opium Musick LP
16 Bitch Pile Up/Sword Heaven-Come Here Sandy split LP
Joanna Newsom-The Milk Eyed Mender LP (have got a burnt CD-R, tis very good indeed)

ok, you are my favorite poster on this board for your taste in music alone.  charalambides have been played a lot here lately, and jack rose is one of my all time favorites.  you need to check out his collaboration with jason bill.  it's amazing.  also pelt if you haven't already.  and check eclipse's site to get the "by the fruits you shall know the roots" 3xlp comp.  six organs, jack rose, matt valentine from tower recording's new project, fursaxa, and two others who rule too.  great record.

and that 16 bitch / sword heaven split is good, but you need to see sword heaven to appreciate them.  INTENSE.  16 bitch is ok.  they are nice at least.

uh...  today i bought these:

antioch arrow - in love with jetts lp gravity press.  didn't have it, it's an ok record.
melt-banana - charlie lp
melt-banana - speak squeak creak lp (one of my all time favorite live bands.  i'm gonna try to see em 3 times this tour!)
snakefinger - against the grain lp (residents side project)
husker du - zen arcade 2xlp
will oldham - joya lp

i also saw bonnie billy tonight.  good show.

Picked up today:

VHS Or Beta: Night On Fire

Go Post-Eighties Revialism! Haven't listened to it yet, but I loved 'You Got Me' so I'm hopeful.

Recently:

Morrissey - Live At Earls Court

Because it has basically the same set list as when he was at Reading last year at that was *the* best act of the weekend, and totally life-changing...

M83 - Before The Dawn Heals Us

Bought on strength of 'Don't Save Us From The Flames', and the rest of the album is...good, but not *as* good, but it might require a few more listens

Lux Courageous - Reasons That Keep The Ground Near

Everyone should own a copy of this - it's the most coherent, complete album I've heard all year and a a brilliant example of what happens if bands are prepared to experiment and mix up what they do a bit rather than be constrained to the obvious/friendly stuff...

Thanks, Mattkills. Eclipse records is awesome. Should get Raag Manifesto by Mr.Rose before it disappears. Anyway, I got these in the Mail last week.

Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice-Sunset Sleeves LP
That band with John Olson from Wolf Eyes wife in. This stuff is alright though nothing super-revealatory in my opinion. It tends to sound like the band are trying to sound more mysterious than they actually are. A couple of the tracks are just murky kitchen-sinky improvs that don't seem to go too far. The vocal trade offs on Serpent Skin are sublime though and the track 'more void' is seductively spooky. For the most part though the record is very quiet with a mild sense of smoky unease.

Avarus-(hard to remember title in Finnish) 2CD
This comp is a mess due to its nature but a pretty interesting one. In a way I find them trying to do what Wooden Wand wanted to but coming off as a lot more succesful and with less pretension. You can tell from the music and the packaging this is just some geeky Finnish kids getting their weird on. My fave track is the last one A-V-P which is a total Motorik drone fest something which I am rather a sucker for.

Comets on Fire with Burning Star Core-Collab LP
I've not played this yet as I just don't trust my cheap Sony turntable even if it does have a new needle. I actually bought this for the BxC as I liked his Brighter Summer Day LP.

today i got:

silver jews "american water" lp
the raincoats "looking in the shadows" lp

good scores for $10.

This record is probably in my all-time top five favourite records of 2005 list, yo. It does take a few listens, though. Check out their older stuff too: it's a lot more electronic and blippy goodness.

Good list my friend.  Crass takes me back to high school, I used to love Crass intensely.  I just broke out "Stations of the Crass" the other day for the first time since I've been in college, it was exciting.  I still know all the words to "Do They Owe Us A Living" and "Heard Too Much About."  Took me a long time to figure out that "Heard Too Much About" was an anti-oi! song.

Yeah, so, I just bought:
Darkbuster - A Weakness For Spirits

Holy Lord, it is unbelievable.  I love punk rock.

I finally got Arcade Fire - Funeral after being told by everyone and their grandmother that it's the best thing since sliced bread.

I must admit that the first two tracks are really amazing, and I like the style of the music as a whole, but the rest of the album is just OK I think... not the religious experience that it has been made out to be.

So it was a good buy, but it hasn't shot to the top of my favourites list yet. It's probably jmostly due to my intolerance for slow dull songs.

Bob Marley - Catch A Fire
QOTSA - Lullabies...
Toots & The Maytals - Some compilation thingy (Monkey Man, 546, Pressure Drop... GHAAA!)
Monster - A Brief History Of (possibly the best swedish rock/pop/punk/ska record ever made)

I saw 65daysofstatic last night and they were amazing as usual. This time, however, their support was too.
So I bought:
randomNumber - Towards the Forlorn Society
Nervous Testpilot - Disposable Hardcore
Adaadat label sampler - Trade and Distribution Almanac Vol 2.

randomNumber is the best by far. Boards of Canada style floaty, ambient synths, with cut-up drill n bass drums in a calm way. Great stuff.

Hansome Boy Modeling School is indeed awesome.  I am listening to them right now.

I got to see them live two weeks ago, and it was one of the best and most entertaining shows I've ever been to.  Rondo Brothers opened and played backup for them, Buck65 followed them, they brought a bunch of "graduates" from the modeling school, including most of hieroglyphics, Pres from Black Sheep (and on request they did This or That), and so on.  Highly recommended.
