For those not hording their local bands, please post links to your favorite ones here.  I'll start and end if no one else posts another band.  What do you mean I'm cynical!?

San Diego-Bunky (may be slightly known as they are on sufjan stevens label now and have opened for Pinback but for those that don't know them...)  Check out Bunky and the two main people's individual efforts.  I especially love Rafter's How Bout U Dad.

Executive Distraction Tasks - Super-fast tech worship
Bilge Pump - Upbeat and bouncy DIY goodness
Red Stars Parade - Massive grooves
Humanfly - All hail the insectoid riff machine
Chickenhawk - Oxes and Melvins style rock destruction

Basolutely none of my liked local bands seem to have websites :(

I am heavily partial to the musings of Overlord to give you a flavour, their cd gives their lineup thus:

Lucky Larry -  Forked Tongue Vocal Ordnance
The Baron - Guitar Delusions
Charrrr - Fuzzed-up Six-String Diabolism
Jess - Low-End Drone
Mike The Failure (the Elephant Man) - Soviet Drum Horror

They play insanely loud, slow and sludgy doom metal. Their lyrical themes (they do concept EPs) are Eastern European prostitution and Misanthropy. They do two covers: 'Girls Aloud-Sound of the Underground' and 'Anal Cunt-Dead, Gay and Dropped'.

Also rocking my world are their sister band Syrafex, with their dual male/female screaming sludge assault.

We do pretty well for local bands:

The Pipettes
Clearlake
Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster I know everyone here seems to think they're annoying scenesters, but they are lovely and I will not hear a bad word spoken about them.
Electrelane (though one of them's now in Prague, and another one's in the states now)
Miss Pain (who have graffittied every toilet in brighton - no mean feat)
Star Scream (mate's  band, they've supported Rachel Stamp I think, really really good)
Brakes (best band in the world ever, with Eamon from BSP)
The Tenderfoot
Electric Soft Parade

Teasing Lulu
and...
BRITISH SEA POWER.

Brighton's cool.

I quite like a bit of Eighties Matchbox myself, they have some catchy tunes. I saw Projections from down Brighton way last night, ex-Cat On Form and very good. And I have a feeling Pool Cleaner might be from there too, and they blew me away. Fantastic improvisations.

Heres some of may faves. Mainly valley folk, one LA. I have to mention the LA band cause I worked with them for over a yr and they rock :)

Virgil LA goodness
UVR Tracy goodness
Honeyspot Sacramento goodness (another one I worked with, though not as good as Virgil ;))
Flying Blind Modesto goodness that moved to LA (you might have heard them on the American Pie 2 sound track. No? I doubted you had too)
Transport I forget where they are from goodness (can also be found on myspace)
Megan Slankard Tracy goodness (buy her CDs on Amazon!)
Grandaddy Modesto goodness that has hit it well (yes I saw/heard them before you! bwahahaha!)

Also worth mentioning (and too lazy to look up for you):
Willknots (they went poof from the net... not sure what happened there)
Hollopoynt
Vegas De Milo
Waterneck (broken up, but not forgotten)

eddited for neatness :)

http://www.myspace.com/deathamphetamine
Deathamphetamine - Wicked awesome death metal/grind.  I think if these guys can get on a label they could become quite popular with the underground/extreme metal folks.  Also, they are some really nice guys.

http://www.freewebs.com/northernaggression/bios.htm
Northern Aggression - Bluegrass.  Fun bluegrass.

Those are both awesome UMass bands.  Wasteland is great too, but I know little of them, the one time I saw them I was impressed.

Ah, Fig 4.0. Never far from my mind. But they didn't have a website after their first guitarist left since he was the one that maintained it, and I thought it might be a bit pointless to list a defunct band it would be damn hard fpr the uninitiated to hear. I left off Canvas too, another local legend. Lost In Rock is a genuine classic. That reminds me, people should check out Tigers! (ex-Canvas screamy hardcore sassyness) here

Although they're not local to me anymore, (I moved) A friend of mine's brother is in a metal/hardcore/whatever the fuck it's called nowadays band in Colorado called Arsenic, and it's not bad.

Although they just switched singers, so we'll have to see how that turns out.

I'm not as well versed on my local scene as I was in the 90's. I just don't live in the clubs anymore :( However, this is my current favorite San Diego band

Goodbye Blue Monday

And I guess I'll say Pinback too, cause I just started getting way into them.

And while I'm at it, I'm gonna put Scarlet Symphony on the list too. I've only ever heard 2 of their songs, and I'm just way behind the bandwagon on this, but this is one of those bands you know you're gonna love. In fact, it looks like their cd is now orderable on their site, so I shall purchase one post haste.

Hey Yipjump, like I said, Im a bit past my SD Music prime. What other SD bands are you digging right now? Im fairly sure I saw Bunky on Fox Rox but I cant remember if I liked what I heard.

Not only are these just good local bands, but also good friends of mine:

Awesome Car Funmaker
They just recently finished producing their first EP with Garbage drummer, Butch Vig.  "We play music.  We play dance-able, rock-able, throw yourself on the floor and flail around-able music."  They have mp3s for download on the site.

The Pipe Circus
Gotta respect the Sax-a-boom. :)  Very funky with bongos and a sax.  They are extremely high energy at their live shows.  They remind me a lot of Little Blue Crunchy Things (another local band that has since broken up but a little more success nation-wide).

Oh, you NEED to see one of their own shows. Its seriously a awesome experience. Assuming you go when there in their home town and surrounding area theres tons of ppl who know when to clap and get all excited and dancin and stuff. Fun times. I missed the Ted Leo show so I can only imagine that most ppl were there for him and not the junciton (which makes sense :) )
Thanks. Matt Good is quite awesome. There aren't too many big acts that I can say I go see every chance I get but he is one of them!

I think i remember something along those lines happening. Fun times!
The best was the first stop of the white light rock and roll tour was in Grand Bend and my grandmother's cottage is near there so i decided to go. The only trick was there was a tornado the day before that wrecked a few homes a couple towns over. The show was at the Motorplex which is outside and soon as they were gettin ready the sky went nuts, it started pouring and the wind was so strong. they said they'd be delaying for a while and in the distance you could see a funnel cloud!! It was nuts. So i drove back to the cottage (which was a scary drive) and then came back when it settled down. They came on a played an awesome set including the new secret song which is a really country sounding track that seemed reall appropriate at a motorplex!!
Crazy night!

OH MAN! I remember that! My friend got caught in that tornado and couldn't go to see the show, he was fucking crushed. He finally saw Matt Good for the first time after like like 7 years of being a fan! He was the crazy tall kid dancing like mad. My other friend was the guy with the huge mohawk. I know it was a while ago, but still felt like its worth mentioning.

anyways, reno bands. bafabegiya, arabella... i'll provide a link if you guys want to check out these post-hardcore lovens. anyone remember This Computer Kills? [best thing ever produced by the city of reno.]

go to Spacement Records to check out these two bands. also, disconnect is among my favorite bands here. i like all these bands so much.

when i lived in vegas, i enjoyed This Virus Makes Us Human and Jesus Fucked The Sun [but not so much for their music. haha.] anyways though, i don't listen to much post-hardcore or anyhthing too fast anymore. it's mostly a Camera Obscura, Pinback, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party fest for me. haha.

Since I don't consider Brooklyn my actual home I'll have to go with DC/MD as my "local" scene cause it's where I grew up.

Medic - Ex-members of the fucking best hardcore band ever, De Nada, bring the jams again with this brutal squad of thrash-ninjas. As far as I know they don't have a website...but if you're in the area or are gonna be sometime peep pheer.com for shows.

Haram - Ex-MajorityRule, pg99, etc. They're kinda like grunge...but good grunge. Not Soundgarden or some bullshit. They're on tour right now so check them out.

The Ready Steady Go! - Ultra-cool mod rock/ska for fans of Elvis Costello, the Specials or Burial. Definitely a sweet band to see live, bring your dancing shoes.

Ummm, there are tons more I want to say, a lot of whom are now defunct. But yeah, there you go for now.

Their sound must be a bit punk if their playing Scolari's Office and that place most certainly is still a dive bar so it looks like their dive bar days aren't behind them yet.  ;)  Still, they don't charge cover so I think I'll head down to check them out on Thursday night.

I'll have to check out Bunky and Goodbye Blue Monday but I believe I saw Scarlet Symphony play at the 2003 SD music awards at Humphrey's By the Bay though I could be mistaken.

As for my local selections...  Rocket from the Crypt has been around for ages and they're a bit to heavy metal to be my favorite but they're not bad and they're a local music institution.  Switchfoot has a real early 90's alternative type sound which I dig but sometimes they let that whole Christian thing seep into there music to much; still they're a very talented band.  Satisfaction & Reeve Oliver are about as EMO as a band can get but I like their Beatles-eque sounds.  I read an article about the lead guitarist formerly was in Dogwood and decided to give Satisfaction & Reeve Oliver a try because I liked Dogwood before they broke up.  There worth the money to go see.

Grace, I saw Little Birdy and Eskimo Joe, both live at Melville Youth Festival last year (or was is the year before?) and yes, they are very good, and better live, definitely.
My opinion is that Eskimo Joe sounded more betterer (is that a word) than Little Birdy do, but then, I like their music better anyway.

Did you say in another post somewhere that you're in a band yourself?

Oh, and my $0.02: halogen, another perth band, quite nice.
