I'm a big Tori Amos fan, but 99% of Strange Little Girl makes me sad, because it is not very good. I think the one song I did like though was 97 Bonnie & Clyde. I saw her play it live on the SLG tour too ^^

I've never actually heard Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". I know! I know! stop pelting me with fruit! If someone could, say, provide me with a clandestine link to said song, I would appreciate it. Needess to say, I love Buckley's version.

Joan Jett's & The Blackhearts cover of "I Love Rock and Roll" Will always demolish any versions that came before, or after (That means you, Miss Spears!)

My Heirarchy of enjoyment for Last Caress goes NOFX > Metallica > anyone else in the world > The Misfits. I hate Glenn Danzig with a fiery passion.

I also enjoy NOFXs cover of "Vincent" over the Don Mclean version.

Lastly, Apollo 440's cover of Don't Fear The Reaper is about 90874587409679087x better than the Blue Oyster Cult original, which is already pretty rad, all things considered.

Oh god! I did a Google search, hoping you were making a joke, but it's true! Britney Spears really did do a cover of I Love Rock and Roll! Isn't that in the Book of Revelations? The end times are truly nigh! I pray to my Unholy Master that I never hear this abomination.

I've heard that version. It hurts more painfully than a painful thing, and I have a soft spot for Britney, too.
I probably shouldn't say this, but have you heard her version of I can't get no Satisfaction?

Metallica - The Imperial March
The Travis version of Baby One More Time is pure comedy, the Darius version is pure torture. The original is only good as eyecandy with the volume really low :)

Hum doing Invisible Sun is better the the Sting version. It's an obscure mp3, but it's out there.

Evergreen Terrace covering U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday is very good. It's not that's it's better, it's just different in a good way.

the Foo Fighters covering Gary Numan's Down in the Park.

the Smahing Pumpkins - Clones, You're All I've got Tonight

The Kickin' Wookies (a local band) covering the Cure's Boys Don't Cry.

I agree that Xiu Xiu's version of Fast Cars is insanely superior to the original.

The Pixies - In Heaven (The Lady in the Radiator Song), Head On, Wild Honey Pie.

Ben Folds' cover of In Between Days is pretty damn great, though the original still fairly rocks.

Incidentally, on the subject of horrible covers, Madonna's American Pie is my favourite. Missed the point like it wasn't there.

Also, Melbourne punks The Vandals have a cover of Queen's Don't Stop Me Now. I really love the Queen version, and this cover has some faults, but it rocks fairly hard.

nirvanas "where did you sleep last night" is in my opinion better than the original wierd blues(i think) song by leadbelly. not that i dont like blues in general.
and sonic youths version of nirvanas "moist vagina". mostly because the original is recorded really badly, and it doesnt feel like theyre trying that hard.
theres probably a bunch more that i´m lazy to think of right now... :P

I saw Rufus Wainwright do a pretty amazing version live of that at a Cohen tribute night...but still prefer Jeff Buckley's version.

Also, another cover that I prefer to the original -
Now It's Overhead's version of Magnetic Fields' The Book of Love is ever so slightly better than the original. But only by a little bit.

Eh, Dream Theater pretty much phoned in the Master of Puppets and Number of the Beast album covers.

The band looks board as well doing Puppets. Ok, so it's tight as anything and ultra spot on, but it's Dream Theater. I feel maybe that should have mixed it up a bit. Mainly because MoP is just a horribly generic album.

Type O Negative - Paranoid. No longer sounding like an over played track. It's just so danm creepy and more importantly, acctually sounds like Black Sabbath in that era.

Imo, as DT's version of MoP sticks a bit too close for true lateness...now, if you want true awesome on that song, it was Apocalyptica live. With a kick-ass drummer. Fuck. One of them jumped off his thrown and slung out the solo in a  bow-legged black metal stance. Only exceeded by the slowly speeding thousand-person hand clap on 'Hall of the Mountain King' and the bit where one of them ran up the drumkit and played a solo with his cello stuck in the top of one of the bass drums.

I was never too fond of the cover either, but to be honest that isn't even my favourite Tears For Fears song by any stretch.  I like it, but then again I like every song on The Hurting.  Cold 80s synths as a backdrop to mental anguish, thudding heartbeat-style percussion, sounds like a good idea to me!

They have a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's 'Hazy Shade Of Winter' which works kinda well.
