I like the soundtracks to Garden State and Vanilla Sky, but at the end of the day, I like my own mix CDs better.

The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack, however, is brilliant.  Second only to the Aladdin soundtrack.

I prefer the musical scores much better:

Jin-Roh
City of Lost Children
Donnie Darko
The Saint

Music in a movie has a large influence on my interest in the film, whether it is score or soundtrack.

For straight up soundtrack, I'm going to have to go goth-geek and say The Crow.

The Spawn soundtrack's pretty fun.

And, er, the stuff they play on the OC, but I've never looked to see what they put out on their compilations.

Ah, but doesn't Rushmore feature "Concrete and Clay"?

Anyway, as every Australian knows the best soundtrack album ever is that for Young Einstein.

(EDIT: I'd also put in a vote for An American in Paris, but I think musicals should be excluded.)

I know some of the stuff on the OC is by Evermore, a New Zealand band.
I liked them before they started getting played on pop radio, the poor guys.
They have an album called Dreams, and an EP called Oil & Water

How on earth can no-one have mentioned John Carpenter yet? Assault on Precinct 13, Escape From New York... time was he couldn't put a foot wrong. The score to Dead Man is pretty excellent too, I think someone told me that was Neil Young?

Yes it is excellent, and yes it is Neil Young (with excerpts of William Blake poems read by Johnny Depp).  However that great theme tune played over the opening credits only appears in a 15-minute distortion-laden version on the C.D., which is a bit disappointing.

Donnie Darko
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill Vol. 1
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Spiderman 1 (I like it... Maybe it's the fancy 3D cover that attracts me so much...)
Garden State
Vanilla Sky
The Virgin Suicides
The Breakfast Club
Almost Famous
I Am Sam
The Boy From Oz
Tommy
Big Fish
The Last Samurai

I can't remember any more that I like, but do you know which one sucks? Series of Unfortunate Events. Why? Because it ripped off Danny Elfman's score for Edward Scissorhands.

I must agree - who doesn't love Portuguese covers of David Bowie songs.

I'll also add most of the robert rodriguez movie soundtracks (desperado, dusk till dawn) cause I have a soft spot in my heart for Tito and Turantulla for some reason.
