Hah! My art may be darker'n the comic itself, but I wouldn't think it to be Miller dark. Less whores and repetition either way ;)

If those are just one-hour dealios then a daylong effort must be stunning...

These incorporate a lot of stuff that's tricky to get just right... the expressions, the masses, the lighting/shading, the delicious ambiguity---Faye looks like she's about to rip your head off or crack a joke, or both--Dora looks like she needs something, but can't quite figure out what it is, and she might just break down if she doesn't get it.

Dunno if you intended any of that, but I'm picking it up. Color(charcoal) me very impressed.

Jotunheim, those portraits are beautiful. It's really interested to see such realistic interpretations of the characters that are still completely recognisable.

You are too modest. Seems to be one of the professional vices of artists.

One thing about being an artist is knowing A. You can always improve. So therefore B.No matter how good your last artistic project was flawed and not good enough.

"Someone" being me. 8-) Except I'm pretty sure I didn't say it should be spelled that way, just that I've seen other forums that do spell it that way to reduce confusion.

(click to show/hide)

Or by 'cab?

(click to show/hide)

Yeah, yeah. But "bus" and "cab" didn't already have meanings of their own, so dropping those apostrophes didn't cause any confusion. "Shipping", however...

Wrong - or at least only a small part of the story.  Cab is short for cabriolet (a type of carriage), and taxi is short for taximeter (originally the French taximètre, from the German taxameter - meaning a charging meter).  Taxicab was formed by concatenating those two abbreviations to describe what had already been called a "taximeter cab", though now both taxi and cab are used independently as abbreviations for taxicab.

A long term thing looks more or less like this, If we're going for one of the black and white things I do :) And thank you for all the nice comments.  (It's in a url because it's not QC fanart. Unless Warhammer 40k and QC occupy the same universe, but different timelines, in which case anthro PCs would be the Iron Men which led to the Age of Strife...Hmmm)

This may seem propestorous of me to suggest* but have you considered doing this for a living, for example drawing artwork for a gaming company?

*I feel it may be so because I am always annoyed when people see me finding the right button in a program and go "oh, you are so good with computers, you should work for [big company name]". By doing so, they unintentionally devalue the skill of the guys of the company in question, which I know to be beyond my own, and my own judgement of my own abilities. Sorry, this got more ranty than I planned.

Not entirely propestorous no :p I do do commission work, and I'd like to spin a living off my drawing and painting. Not getting enough work to support myself fully yet though.

Oh, interesting. I had heard the word "cabriolet" before, but had no idea it had any connection to taxis. Thank you!

Jotunheim, may I ask: Is you work digital, or physical media? Much impressed either way, and I wish you all good luck in making a living off it.

Occurs to me the word I was looking for in saying what I specifically liked about your Faye portrait was "modeling" moreso than "lighting" but it's still amazingly good.

that's kind of what I was going for. I was doodling the thing with their break-up in mind, and decided to use huge eyes to kind of show her vulnerability sort of thing... IDK I think I just felt like Scott Pilgrim-ing in one of the few poses I can actually draw to be honest

Faye's line about imagining Marigold in a robot pilot suit led in the WCDT to forumite Akima's open-atmosphere request, which I picked up.

Anyway, this being the fan-art thread, I thought I'd repost over here too.

I did a quick sketch of Marigold in a plugsuit, very rough and not as cool as DSL's, but I was imagining how she would react to Dale (or anyone else) seeing her. I posted it on Deviantart here http://zwammy.deviantart.com/art/EVMarigold1-424444683 so you'll need an account to view, I believe.

I saw it without an account, so no worries there.
I like the body language -- specifically the contrast between Marigold's usual, um, extreme diffidence and the attitude it would take to wear that sort of outfit where people could see you. I think that's what makes your drawing.

... I'm not sure about some of the ones offered.

I'm still not; and I think it could be considered unfair to have some of the main cast in smiley form, but not others.  I might make an exception for a Claire-face, though, as it's such a specific thing.
