...Bay area? Nor Cal? I live within an hour of Oregon. THAT is Nor Cal. xD
Then again I just have a different perspective.

Yes, the Redding area is technically Northern California, but since the Bay Area is the most populated area north of L.A, or SoCal, we call it NorCal.

And I use and hear hella all the time

I just wanted to comment quickly that it just fully dawned on me how funny it is that Sara caught a case of Chuck Cunningham Syndrome, except that where they normally never mention said character again, Jeph winks at us with a note on the blackboard later on.  I mean, I knew about Sara, but I never quite got how funny it was before.  This is what happens when I don't sleep x.X

I liked the "Her? Oh, she was eaten by a dinosaur." approach. I only saw that detail recently too. There was some fun think about where she is now on the thread Allosaurus, or: Sara's Fate which sank down to the second page.  Goodbye, thread of Allosaurus biology and metatextual silliness, I thought you still had potental.

Old enough to know better.

Actually, that's the first line of a Lyle Lovett song,  "You Can't Resist It", that's oddly appropriate. Here it is:
http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Lyle-Lovett/You-Can-t-Resist-It.html
Wish I could find the live track of him and Leo Kottke doing this.

Well, Mako, according to a post on an old topic I started (Jacques, master of forseshadowing), no, he didn't. Jeph claims he just makes it up as he goes along.

Jeph, you wouldn't, well, lie to us, wouldja?

BTW, Jeph, are Sven and Dora's powers kind of like those of the Wonder Twins? If they bump fists (heads, asses, whatever) and scream "Bianchi Siblings powers: Activate!" are all things sexual revealed to them?

Jeph,

Do you have to have your own webcomic to submit a guest strip to you?

No obligation for you to even run it, obviously, but just a query.

Hi, Jeph,

Would you be willing to put the "transcribe this comic" link up again if enough people offered to step up and do some actual transcription?

How many people would be enough?

I've been seized by the urge to type in some dialog and make more of QC searchable.

What font do you use in the new logo?

Lowrider.

What happened to the "transcribe this comic" link?  I went looking for a comic (specifically, this one).  It is apparently not yet done, and I was feeling rather altruistic at the time.

Instead I went looking through about a hundred comics for it :-)

It got hugely unwieldy and useless. I might reset that particular database and try again.

You've talked about wanting to make QC books. If you did, would you go back and redo some of the older strips in the newer art style?

Yes but realistically I'm not sure if it would happen.

Jeph, what restaurant would you take your girlfriend/fiancee out to on your anniversary?  Also whats your favorite restaurant?

A tasty one.

So I was wondering, would you, Jeph, support a volunteer project to download the pictures, and have people add voiceover to provide the voices? You as creator would have to audition some folks to make sure you got the voice in your head; and maybe help with creating the art in layers so the word balloons can be removed, if you don't do that already.  The loyal QC readership would take care of the picture manipulation, voicing the words as written, and uploading the files to the site.

Not really. Nobody would be able to get the voices right. Also the last thing I need right now is MORE work to do on the comic.

Sorry if this has been asked, but why is there no weather? They live in western MA, Right? MA is a  land of a lot of weather that requires more (or less, in the summer) than a t-shirt and jeans, which is what pretty much everyone wears all the time.

QC's glacial pace means the seasons haven't changed much.

Hey Jeph!

Your newspost reminded me that you were in a band that broke up before you started drawing QC. I'm curious as to what kind of band it was. Do you have any mp3 recordings of it?

Imagine Mogwai, but worse.

I've the entire current QC comic collection 3 times over.

Is this normal?

Verb?

Are there any plans to merch the :P or :O mugs that Marten and Faye use?

Before somebody beats me to it.

Jeph, I just thought I'd be the first to ask--what's up with the new avatar?  It looks magical.  And possibly poisonous.  Probably both.

Ponies.

Hi Jeph!  Have you ever thought about the possibility of a Winslow iPod cozy available in the store?   :-)

Stock answer to all potential merch questions ever: we're thinking about it.

Hi Jeph!
I was reading some of the older comics and i saw ellen speaking about AnthroPc's in the library who make fun of you when you try to get any acctual work done on them.

Any chance of seeing them in the comic?

PS: Love your comic! Best wishes from Estonia!

Who knows?

PS: Thanks! Your country is hard to mail things to!

Dear Jeph,

Will this recent collarbone injury impede upon your little-known New Year's resolution to hand-service 7 ponies per day?

Thanks!
Calenlass

Katie I really appreciate you taking over the pony-servicing gig for me. I never would've guessed they all liked anal!

I'm sure I've seen rain at some point =/
Or maybe I'm going crazy =]
I guess the reason he doesn't do weather is coz they're hardly ever outside

And whats happened to the search bar for the comics?

It broke. I haven't fixed it yet.

Dear Jeph

I have three questions.

1. How come it is never raining outside in your comic
2. Would you mind if I copied every QC strip onto my ipod so I could read them whilst on holiday
3. I, uh, can't think of a third question. Bye.

1. AUGH
2. NO NO PLEASE DO NOT COPY SOMETHING I AM ALREADY GIVING AWAY FOR FREE
3. This is not a question.

Hey Jeph, I've always wondered.....what does their new place look like from a distance? Like, all we've ever seen was the door with those lines(Plastic siding?) and the inside.....is it like a house? a condo? an apparent? I have a vague feeling like its a old 1930's downtown generic two-three story building that they seem to have floating around in the downtown area most cities....you know, the kind that goes on for an entire block(ala this, but restidental)

I'm so confused.....

It's a regular apartment building with a giant vulva spraypainted on the roof (for identification).

Dear Jeph,

Do you spend a lot of time obsessing over how to dress your characters each Questionable Content morning? I imagine it's a lot more stressful than dressing one's self, since the clothes you put on them could potentially last for weeks in real time! On the other hand, their wardrobes are functionally unlimited, and there's no need to worry over their clothing making them look fat or lumpy.

This is the substance of my preoccupations.

No, it usually takes me about two seconds to decide.

hey jeph,

i know you have touched on polyamorous relationships a little bit with tia, but do you think there is a possiblity for it between marten, dora and faye....or is that just a fan servicey dream

also what are the odds of faye not hooking up with sven cause that would make me sad

In order:

Hey Jeph!
A couple of questions for you.
1. What piece of music is Benji playing in comic #1062, and
2. Is he hybrid picking (as it looks like he is using a pick).
Thank you in advance for your answers!

1. Some random Segovia thing.
2. Iunno.

Whatever it takes to make the pony cocks hurt less, Katie.

How does QC time compare to actual time? How much time in the lives of your characters has elapsed since this comic began?

You know how glass isn't actually a solid, but an extremely viscous liquid? Yeah.

Jeph,

Do you have to have your own webcomic to submit a guest strip to you?

No obligation for you to even run it, obviously, but just a query.

I accept all submissions but there are no guarantees that I will run it on the site.

Jeph, I feel a little silly asking this, but does it ever get to you when people don't enjoy your work?

Meh. Anything as popular as QC is going to have its fair share of detractors.

Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?

MY PARENTS ARE DEEEEEEAAAAAAAAD!

Hey, Jeph, looking at today's comic strip i got a tingling sense of presaging weird version of "La Vie Boheme"... Is that normal?

I mean, i had that dream about that table-dancing singing about lesbians, s/m, yogurt, inabilities of holding erections on high holydays, 10 gallon plastic pickle tubes, wine and beer and...*sigh* just read it

http://www.metrolyrics.com/la-vie-boheme-lyrics-rent.html

oh god is that song from a musical

i fucking loathe musicals

How is that flu treating you?
Because I've been sick with it since Saturday. Fever just finally went away. Just a touch of the SARS mind you...

It sucked pretty bad.

Jeph, does the wild speculation on this forum cramp your style? I mean, do you think "I can't do that now, it would just look like I'm trawling the forum for ideas." or do you just ignore it alll? And are you better today?

I can no longer read any discussion about my comic online. Ever since the Faye/Sven thing the Comic Discussion boards just freak me out.

And yes, I expressed my appreciation in the other, arguably more meaningful way, as well. OK, so here's a question:

Do you have to really work at these jokes, or are you just that damn funny naturally? Do you crack people up most of the time?

Jokes are hard. People laugh at me often. It may be pity.

Hey Jeph, do you know anyone who has similar drawings to yours....?
by the way, I'm totally addicted to QC!

No but if they're out there they really need to learn to draw better.

So... Jeph... On Friday the 8th's comic, is Faye singing Nine Inch Nails "Starf*ckers Incorporated" or is she singing Carly Simon's "You're So Vain"?

Both have those lyrics, either could fit the situation very well.

I cannot imagine a situation in my comic where someone would sing a Nine Inch Nails song.

I was planning on making some kind of online collectible card game of sorts and I am trying to get LOTS of artists to perhaps draw or donate a piece of art that can be used as a character or creature in it. Would you be interested in helping out? (This is the question)

I probably do not have time.

I was just reading back through the archives and noticed you played WoW like 80 years ago... do you still play?  Also, will Hannelore ever get a boyfriend?

I stopped playing WoW when I realized it is basically an unpaid part-time job.

Almost every time I look at the "Key Stats" box, there's a different name as "Latest Member." How often are people joining this forum? How many accounts are active over a week? How many fall into disuse? How long does the average member stay active?

Constantly, but most of them are lurkers. Fucked if I know any of the other stats.

Jeph, do you ever go back and re-read the older comics?

Yes, when I feel like making myself ashamed to be alive.

How badly was your poor poor inbox abused over the weekend?

It filed a restraining order.

Registered to ask this question:

Do forum posts effect(affect?) the storyline of your comic? Or do you just giggle at the responses and continue on your merry way?

Do you know about other webcomic artists? How they feel about forum posts?

Absolutely not. And I don't know of anybody who lets them.

Are antroPC's (and Hanner's humanoid boyfriend-robot thing) programmed with the Three Laws of Robotics?

Maybe.

-Is it a tad bit creepy that I read through eighteen pages of questions and answers?
-Are you aware that the easily mistakable "questionablecontent.com" is a porn site? (The first time I was referred to this webcomic [by my brother], I typed that in... Me = "What the hell???")
-Do you enjoy ice hockey?

By the way's you should come to the Bay Area. Hella, hella, hella nor cal. Have you ever been to San Francisco?

-I don't know.
-Hah.
-Not really.

Yes, I need to go to San Francisco someday.

Is 'hella' a common term on the east coast too?

Not really.

Dear Jephers,

I actually think you have a pretty nice butt, but I will never say that around Cristi because she would gore me.

Love,
Calenlass

PS-Please to unban Hat, as he actually does think you have a sweet candy ass and was just joking around.

Dear Jeph,

Which is better: Shampoo or Conditioner?

Conditioner is for girls.

Does Faye still have her silly Russian hat of yesteryear?

I assume so

My question is: How old is Faye, exactly?

Thirty-seven.

i was looking through the archive and stumbled accross this one,

Thirty-seven.
In a row?

Jeph, you've sort of skewered the indie, emo and goth scene but not the punk scene.  I would think punk is ripe with comedic material, what gives?

Why is Faye a supporter of the Deutscher Fussball Bund?  (As seen in this comic.)  Or, if she's not a supporter, does she just think it's a cool football shirt?

Why do I care why a fictional character is wearing a German football shirt?

1) Are the theories about Hanner's shirt being incredibly advanced technology from her father's space station, and thus able to change its lettering from minute-to-minute true?

2) What do you use to draw with?  I've tried drawing on the computer, but I've only got a mouse, and, well, they're rather appalling when it comes to using them to actually draw something.

3) I know that your drawing style has improved over the last five years, and I also know that you constantly try to improve how your drawings look.  I was wondering how far from "perfection" are you?  I mean, how close are the characters to the people you envision in your head?  Or have the characters in your head changed to reflect your drawing style at all?

4) Referring to your answer to Is It Cold In Here's question about transcribing the comic, if I were to send you a large text-file, say, in a week or so, containing all of the speech of the characters with links to their respective comics and comic titles, would you reinstate the search function?

5) Did I creep you out in my email?  After rereading it a few times over the next bunch of days after I sent it, I came to the conclusion that I may have come off as a rather deranged internet lunatic.  I apologize if this is the case, as I can assure you that I am one of the saner breeds of deranged internet lunatics.  (For reference, it was called "I just pulled a QC marathon".)

6) What's up with Marten's mom's face?  I just noticed it on panel 4 on this comic, and I don't think it's ever been addressed before.

The following question is almost guaranteed to get people to start attacking me, but I don't care.  OCD ftw!
7) This is something that sort of bothers me.  Mondays' comic numbers end in a 5 or a 0, and Fridays' comics end in a 4 or a 9.  Could you pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase do an extra comic so that Fridays' comics end in 5 or 0?

What do you mean, about Marten's mom's face? I think you're referring to wrinkles, or you might be talking about lighting.

Wrinkles are kind of tough to do well, especially in the older style.

He's improved on it, such as on Dora's parents.

Ah.  As for the fact that I think a lot, I originally had 2 questions in there, but I kept coming up with more.  I edited like four times to add more questions because I didn't want to quintuple post or something.
Makes sense.

I have a question: Is it difficult to write characters that think differently than you do? For example, assuming you are straight, how do you provide attractions for, say, Dora or Faye? Base their likes on women or gay men you know, or put yourself in the mindset of what would appeal to you if you were them? Same goes for music.

New user here and this will be my first post so you'll be my first. =P

anycase, will you do any reference to the recent death of Gary Gygax, one of the makers of D&D in QC? I could imagine Pintsize, Winslow, and Romba doing a LARP of D&D. lol

Mitch Clem does punk jokes way better than I ever could.

I like Germany, and I like watching the World Cup.

Dunno!

1) Whatever works.
2) A Cintiq.
3) I hate my artwork, which is why I constantly try to make it suck less. That being said, Dora in panel 3 of today's comic is pretty close to how I imagine her. Hannelore never quite "clicked" for me until I gave her the current poofy, messy hairstyle. Marten needs another haircut.
4) Eventually.
5) Nah. I read everything I get, but I don't have time to respond to most of it. Emails are always appreciated.
6) Poorly-rendered wrinkles.
7) It'll change sooner or later if I take a day off or something.

Dear Jeph, why are you so awesome?
thanks in advance.

I am not really that awesome.

Why do you hate musicals?

Because they are bad

It's debatable how "differently" any of my characters think from me. People who don't like my comic probably don't think I do a very good job at writing them! But I just do my best and try to make things realistic. Attraction is pretty universal, and as such not as difficult to write as other things. Music is easiest of all- I have pretty specific tastes but it is not hard to relate to someone who has different ones. My fiancee only listens to mainstream pop, classical music, and country.

anycase, will you do any reference to the recent death of Gary Gygax, one of the makers of D&D in QC? I could imagine Pintsize, Winslow, and Romba doing a LARP of D&D. lol

I'll probably throw something subtle in tonight's comic, unless I forget.

At the lame joke store, it was on blue light special right next to your post, apparently.

Jeph, there was one comic where Marty and Hanners where at the music store, and in the newspost, you said you were disappointed that one of the speech bubbles covered up part of the background that you were particularly proud of.  Could you by any chance post a copy of the background without any of the speech bubbles?  Thanks.
