RUSH2112:

--- Quote from: Filk ---Dream Theater has one of the most skilled musicians i've ever heard.

If they went a little heavier, switched to a less whiny vocalist and got rid of the keyboards, i'd love them for the rest of my days.

Pfft...Jordan Rudess pwns all. Seriously. Get rid of him and Dream theater would be on crutches...Seriously.

RUSH2112:

--- Quote from: Borondir ---Um, if you have no idea what's going on, why even bother to post?

And Dream Theater is only metal sometimes, and even then, certainly not the best.

Ok lets go down the list:

John Petrucci: Best guitarist ever tied with Satriani and Vai.

Jordan Rudess: Unrivaled keyboardist. You can't mess with him.

Mike Portnoy: Too heavy on the double-bass pedals but DAMN if he isn't good. Seriously. Neil Peart, Steve Smith and a few others beat him but not many.

John Myung: A seriously cool bass player who is sort of in the same area as Mike is with drums: Not the best but definitely in the top ten.

James LaBrie: A voice that sort of has to grow on you but It's better than Axle Rose by a long shot. They could have picked worse. Basically you take him away and you get LTE so you sort of need him.

You don't listen to a lot of virtuoso players, do you?

I listen to a lot. The only two up there that I consider true virtuosos are JR and JP. The others are just damn good.

Why who would you prefer?

Aneurhythmia:
I dunno.  I'd question either Petrucci or Satriani being in the top 10.  Vai seems less limited than those two, but there are probably better anyway.

And there are probably thousands of jazz drummers that are better than Portnoy.
