Halo 3

messeduplilkid:
Again, its not the AR. The weekly update on Bungie.net made the comment. But besides the point, things are changing, even MC's armor looks different (esspecialyl the helmet and gauntlets).

Also this arguement about what game is better then the next is pretty useless.

SilkyNumbNuts: I dont understand how Halo 2 is WORSE then the first. They balanced EVERYTHING and EVERYONE, they improved on just about every step to make it both competative and seamless. I sure as hell dont like getting killed by a shotgun from half a level away (seriously a freakin shotgun). I'm pretty sure a pistol should not be able to kill me across the map in 3 hits (seriously a pistol?!).  Sure, there are flaws like the super bouncing and weapons have been nerfed or boosted, but you gotta be able to grow with the game. If you dont think its fun because its more difficult, its not the game, its you.

 Its just like if your in a sport. I remember when the rules changed for Vollyball at our school. People could keep up, alot of things had to change. The game dosent suck any more or anyless because the rules changed, you  just cant keep up. (The "YOU" isnt directed at anyone.. because thats what i was told when i was playing)

I try to play Halo: Combat Evolved and its fun to remember the good ol' days of having a one handed charchter. But everything done to Halo 2 was  in attempt to improve gameplay.

Though, i wont go so far as to say one is better then the other. But certainly one isnt WORSE then the other.

So lets stop the arguing, and try to discuss whats going on with Halo 3.

Jiperlee:
I dunno if it was mentioned or not, but fuck if I'm gunna read all that(hell, I ain't even gunna re-type it- this is all copied and pasted from posts on other forums)

The Gravemind, as far as I can tell, is like an Overmind like creature- it controls the flood with a master-intelligence.

But for Cortana, she's Rampant.

Rampancy occurs because of 3 things; either she's gotten too old(unknown), gotten alot of outside stimuli(obviously, Master Cheif offered her this), or she's accessed a huge system, in which she has freedom to grow her systems with questions(Like Halo, Pillar of Autumn, High Charity, Delta Halo, ect)

There are 3 known levels of Rampancy(according to Wikipedia)- Melancholia, or feeling like a slave, and theres nothing anyone can do to help it. Apparently, this stage can last for many years. Cortana was displaying those attributes. In Halo 2, she isn't as chatty, isn't really all there....

The second level is Anger. This can easily be seen in Halo 1(so the first level of Rampancy could have been happening even before we met her) when she fights with the Index- her anger is extremely clear.

The last is Jealously, which we may not have seen yet....

Equally, the new trailer shows Cortana degrading and breaking up- something the rampant AI's in Marathon did- and Halo 3 concept art has this;

According to Wikipedia, following the Rampant ideals of AI's in Marathon, they said;

Given that rampant AIs typically concoct plans which are surprisingly beneficial to those who think the plan will doom them, Cortana's conversation with the Gravemind may be a plot similar to this.

One huge sign of Cortana's Rampancy is this- she never blew up High Charity to stop the Halo from firing. You noticed that? She was supposed to save the Universe from complete Annilation, and she let them go ahead and do it. Why?

Ozymandias:
O GOD MY SCREEN.

messeduplilkid:
ARG! I completely forgot! Marathon, those bastards at Bungie totally inter-connecting games like that. Anyone beaten the Marathon series to relate to Halo 3? I'll see how much info I can dig up.

Glad to see my AI theories arent super idiotic, and even more glad to see people can articulate them much better.

Thanks Jiperlee for the info! keep it commin everyone.

Jiperlee:
What? You want some more information?

Damn, you guys need better connections;

ALL THEORIES BUT IF THEY'RE TRUE, THEN INSANE SPOILERS BELOW. IF NOT, WE COOL[/size]

In Halo 3, the Covenent have Conquered Earth

Yea. Uh-huh. Conquered. Heres the proof;

"It was intended to be an understated announce of Halo 3 - the tone is that of mystery and suspense – the calm before the storm. I wanted to make sure that we re-introduced the Chief, show that Earth is thoroughly conquered, with Covenant everywhere, and that there is a glorious, ancient artifact buried under the Earth’s crust which will provide H3 with the epic journey which we all want."
~Marcus Lehto, Art Director, Bungie's News Page

Humans are the Forerunners[/u]

Its hinted that the Humans are Forerunners(Halo builders) by the Index. Theres alot of evidence to support this;

When confronted about the true function of Halo after retrieval of the Index, 343 Guilty Spark comments: "But you already know that… I mean… how couldn't you. (…) Last time you asked me, if it were my choice, would I do it? Having considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed." When taken together with the knowledge that the Forerunner apparently destroyed themselves with Halo (see "History," above), it suggests that 343 Guilty Spark believes that Master Chief was present when the Halos were originally fired. This would explain why only humans can use the Index to activate Halo (e.g., Tartarus uses Miranda to activate Delta Halo at the end of Halo 2). Guilty Spark's comments may also hint at why the AI Cortana states in both Halo and Halo 2 that something seems "familiar" about the Forerunner computer systems.

Finally, during the Halo 1 level "The Maw" section "Light Fuse, Run Away", 343 Guilty Spark is seen in a cutscene extracting information from consoles in the engineering bay. As he madly hums, zapping boards with some unknown device, he comments to the Master Chief: "To have a record of all our lost time…." The use of the pronoun "our" may or may not be inclusive of the Master Chief, but it does suggest either that humans are heirs to the Forerunner or at least that Forerunner events are entwined with the affairs of humans, as it is presumably human data logs that Guilty Spark is extracting.

More Info

Also, theres a "Grunt Crossing" sign hidden in the trailer- possibly to imply time has passed, but more likely as a joke.....
