Smash Brothers Brawl
Narr:
Oh my christ,
I just spent the last 8 hours straight playing this game with a friend.
I FUCKING LOVE SMASH BROTHERS.
Anyway, My thoughts on new additions:
Sonic's not that great for KOs on his own, but I'm sure given enough time playing assholecuntbagdouches that do nothing but Final Destination, I'll figee his smashes better.
Metaknight just doesn't have a smash attack as far as I can tell, although he is king of the air. His regular air moves hit pretty hard and he's rather versatile when it comes to movement up there.
Pitt is mediocre, but doesn't really do anything for me because I like Kirby better and they more or less serve the same purpose.
Toon Link is pretty cool, but he's a carbon copy of regular Link, who is my classic best character throughout the entire series. He's got enough changes to warrant him as a new character, though, vs. Little Link in Melee.
Ike's a mixed bag for me. His horizontal recover is just terrible. There's no other way to describe it. It's utterly garbage. I like slow power characters for the most part, but I can't get past the fact he simply CAN NOT recover from horizontal smash attacks.
Wario is love. I love the motorcycle. I love the shoulder smash. I love the ridiculous Wario-Man costume. He's been my favorite Mario world character in every Mario Golf/Tennis/Kart game, so I'm not surprised.
Snake is pretty awesome on open levels with lots of chaos, but he's not very good 1v1 or in smaller stages. His smashes are slow. They are amazing, but slow. You hit a guy with a Nikita missle and he's pretty much gone. If you hit him. I also don't like the fact that you can hurt yourself or teammates with most your specials or smash attacks, even if team damage is off. BUT ALL THAT SAID, Snake is pretty awesome over all. On stages where you've got some distance, you can grenade and rocket whore all day long. If you're playing with multiple people (which is the only way to play), you can rig bombs and shit that ninja kills as well.
Diddy Kong = why bother? I only used him during some of the special events, but I didn't give a damn about him.
Olimar is fun but kind of on the weak side.
Lucario is like a quicker, more powerful Mewtwo. Borderline overpowered in the right hands, if you ask me. He's not a dodgy as Mewtwo was, though. However, the fact his moves get more powerful as you take damage is rather cool. He's godly on stages where getting up to 250% is possible as after that, his regular attacks are likely to knock you off.
I think I covered all the new people but Wolf and Rob, as Wolf = slower, more powerful Fox with slightly different trajectories and ROB, because I didn't bother to play with him yet. ON TO THE CHANGES TO CHARACTERS:
Mario's down+b move is god awful. I can't figure out how to make it worthwhile, except maybe for whoring corners when it's 1v1? I miss ground tornado.
Donkey Kong went from being a joke to being awesome with just a change to the speed of his charge punch.
Kirby is awesome again because he's got N64 slide kick instead of fireball! Also Kirby + Snake's Mullet and 5-o-clock shadow is the best thing in Smash Brothers.
Also: FINAL SMASHES are extremely unbalanced. Captain Falcon's is an instant KO if you hit someone. Snake can easily kill every other opponent on the screen, possibly even twice. Let's not even speak of Pikachu and Sonic. THEN you've got Donkey Kong. What is the fucking point, man? The only reason to get the final smash with him is purely to make sure others don't get it. I find it extremely weird the rest of the game was rebalanced hardcore, but they made the final smashes pretty insane compared to each other. It's a small part of the game but when you're doing like a 3 minute match, that one kill you get from the final smash is likely to turn the game in your favor.
tl;dr:
I am going to buy a Wii so I can have sex with it because this game is that awesome.
CarbonatedWeasel:
Ive had the game for a few days, I think about a week now, and I almost have everyone unlocked I think.
It kinda bugs me how they changed a few things with Yoshi, who is my favorite character, they didnt change enough to make him different, just worse.
His over smash doesnt reach quite as far as before and his meteor smash timing is totally different and most of the time doesnt hit people straight down. And the worst thing is that they totally nerfed his butt bomb. Now anyone can just do almost any sort of attack and swat him away right in the middle of the attack. I can still win with him most of the time but these things still bug me.
As far as the new characters go,
Olimar
I really really like Olimar, Im not sure why, he is a very strange character with an unconventional playing style but he can be very quick and pretty powerful if you know how to use him. Plus its just fun to pelt people with random pikmin while they are fighting each other.
Pit
Meh, Ive tried him a few times but I just cant get the hang of him, he is quick but I just cant knock anyone off. Its like he doesnt have any good finishing moves, or at least not a whole lot that I have seen.
Lucario
I pretty much refuse to play with him because he is probably the single most lame looking pokemon I have ever seen. Ever.
Snake
With Snake in a match you are guarenteed to have at least something exploding onscreen at sometime or another. At first I didnt like him but now that I know how to use him, he is actually really fun to use. Im not good with him but he is still fun.
Ike
Im generally not a fan of slower characters so Ike isnt really one I like to use. Though I dont really like fighting against him either, I think he is waay too heavy and is really hard to knock off. He just doesnt fly anywhere.
Metaknight
I cant do well with him, I have the same trouble with him that I do with Pit, quick but I cant get any KOs. On a side note, his voice is way too deep for how small he is, its kinda creepy, in a funny way.
Lucas
He is really fun to use, I think I might be slightly better with Ness but he still kicks a significant amount of butt. I love his up smash, its just so powerful.
Pokemon Trainer
I like using the trainer mostly because of Ivysaur, he has be perfect mix of speed and power, I love any attack that make him explode out of the flower on his back, thats just fun. Also his neutral special is good for racking up some damage. I also love using the vine recovery.
Squirtle is also fun just because of how quick it is, I can do decent with him.
Charizard is my least favorite only because he is a heavy character and I cant do well with them. Still he is okay.
Sonic
I dont use him because he isnt a Nintendo character that shouldnt be in the game in the first place. I think I am still the only one who thinks that.
Zero Suit Samus
Probably my favorite new character so far, seriously, I just love the whipping and the quickness and everything. I will usually try to stay as her through an entire match even if that means after getting a smash ball that I need to find a place to turn back into her without people attacking me. It has gotten to the point where my friends will try to not let me transform to Zero Suit after I get a smash ball they all gang up on me and follow me around. Everyone really hates it but me.
I still really want to unlock Toon Link, young Link was one of my favorite characters last game so Im hoping he will me similar.

Haven't gotten very far, but I have read a bit here and there about Sonic's role in SSE. Lame -- he should have had some awesome vs. Mario battle relatively early on or something.
Also, I have come up with some better music choices for Sonic than what they actually put in:
Sonic Adventure:
Skydeck a Go! Go! from (Sky Deck part 1) -- kicks as much tail as the new version of the Brinstar song without any remixing.
Mt. Red: A Symbol of Thrill also from (Red Mountain part 1)-- it's got a rearrangement of the Sonic 2 Mystic Cave 2-Player theme in it.
Twinkle Cart also from (Panic Puppet Zone Remix, from Sonic 3D Blast) -- another great retro kick, but a better fit might be
Windy Valley~The Air (Windy Valley part 3) -- which also is based on a song from 3D Blast, and kinda' guitar-based.
Sonic Heroes:
Seaside Hill -- first level of the game, looks a heck of a lot like Green Hill and the music fits overall.
Ocean Palace -- the second stage of the game has a song by the great Naofumi Hataya, one of the guys behind the J/E Sonic CD soundtrack among other things. Would be REALLY cool if maybe some Game Gear Sonic stuff could be thrown in -- I'm sure it could be done.
Grand Metropolis -- I think having one of the more upbeat songs is a better idea for GHZ.
Frog Forest, Bullet Station and Bingo Highway would all be reasonably good songs to throw in Subspace stages. Instead all we get is a couple licks of His World in the Stickerbrush Symphony remix (original from DKC2, Bramble Blast).
Speaking of which, why is His World in this game at all? A better song would have been something from one of the Nintendo-released games.
I can't blame them for putting in Seven Rings, but I don't like that song. Let the Speed Mend it would be a better choice since it's more like the Super Mario Land song played often in Subspace (maybe that was another Sonic song thrown in a Subspace remix?). [ur=http://youtube.com/watch?v=KHXmFNrvWp4&feature=relatedl]It might have worked (go to about halfway in for Brawl footage).[/url] That said, not a lot of it really works with GHZ from that game; the entire soundtrack was outside of SEGA's hands -- done by Runblebee -- which when they've got a great studio with incredible talent like Wavemaster makes me wonder what's up.
Sonic CD:
Palmtree Panic Present, from the US Version. Since the first level from each game is usually a GHZ variant, these songs fit well. It's also a bit better than the J/E version, though using...
Toot Toot Sonic Warrior (Sonic You Can Do Anything), the J/E version theme song would be another good choice since it actually first appeared in the Sonic 2 GG game.
I can't say much about Sonic Adventure 2 as I never played it, nor anything after Sonic Heroes, in terms of what songs to put in, though the stuff from Sonic 06 usually fits well with the Subspace environments (which are very similar to those in Sonic 06, just in 2D).
But Leaf Forest ~Right There, Ride On~? FUCK YEAH, SEAKING! One of the better choices. Also uses a sample used in a Foo Fighters song, apparently.
EDIT: Edited some redundant phrases to remove any redundancies.
Cartilage Head:
I still think Snake has a hard time fitting in, but I have to admit that he really kicks ass. To me it seems like he causes more plain damage than any character with his basic attacks.
I was pretty dissapointed with Meta Knight. I mean, he does more damage, but is still just about as light as Kirby.
King Dedede is really awesome. His attacks have huge knockback and his floaty-jump is really helpful given that he is a heavyweight character. I also like Pit a lot, since he is really balanced.
Sonic could have been done better, but his speed is faithful and his hoaming-fuck-up attack is pretty useful.
bryanthelion:
My problem is Olimar is that, it is too easy for someone to steal K.OS.
Like yeah, I can get someone from zero to 100 in no time, but then I have to run over and knock them out (I'm usually far when I throw my pikmin) and then someone swoops like a vulture and takes my kill.
