I listen to music that doesn't have prominent vocals so I can't get distracted, as I love to sing along to things and tht distracts me. Quiet stuff is best. It blocks out everything else.

Godspeed You!... and Radiohead are definitely my favorite study music, unless it's very late at night and I'm having trouble staying up.  Then it's Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx and Fatboy Slim.

Hmmm ... I did a lot of studying to Sepultura CD's. Chaos and Roots and I'm so showing my age there ...

Anything heavy that you cannot sing along too works for me.

I tend to listen to any old thing. However, stuff that works best is usually either things with long songs so that the time doesn't just disappear, or just any proggy stuff that I can't sing along to or owt. The Mars Volta generally fill both those categories, and Pink Floyd tend to as well (although I do usually sing along to them)

Lines:
i can't listen to anything. it's too distracting because i'd rather pay attention to the music than what i'm trying to read. although, sometimes, i can listen to soundtrack music and not be bothered, just depends on which one.
