Music for studying.
El Opium:
I listened to a lot of Autechre when I was writing a twenty-page sociology paper.
Alegis:
Classical, usually Mozart, Bach or Beethoven.
That stuff really works, with the regular songs I just get carried away etc.
Kai:
My study cds... Aphex Twin's Richard D. James album, or the Slected Ambient Works. Bill Laswell stuff is good. Brian Eno, electronic stuff, you know. Post rock is good too. Post metal, not so much.
FeralCats:
If I listen to music while studying, I invariably stop studying, sit listening for five minutes...and then all of a sudden I'm at my piano jamming and it's 4 in the morning. Oops.
StrikeThePostman:
I always have something playing, as I like to make the experience as pleasant as possible. Staying up late to finish essays can actually be okay when I'm accompanied by music and a cup of tea.
I listen to things that are comforting, like The Mountain Goats, M. Ward, and Vashti Bunyan. Some oddballs (Dylan, The Microphones) are thrown in to make sure I don't fall asleep. ;)
