Why the eyebrow raise? By crazier i mean, louder, something that would normally allow for lack of concentration.

E. Spaceman:
Well, it's just that saying you "go for the crazier stuff like System of a Down" is a bit like saying " I like really arty TV, like Sesame Street"

Johnny C:
But for studying, SOAD is pretty crazy. It's like listening to Deerhoof while baking.

Ok, now that I have that out of my system, I typically listen to what I normally listen to - this means metal.  Most frequently through my CD player while studying is Samael - Reign of Light, though The Old Dead Tree - The Perpetual Motion has been enjoying some time of its own.

penpen17:
I listen to a lot of post-rock, mostly Mogwai and sometimes Pelican.  When I'm reading something really dense that I have to concentrate on, I listen to just post-rock.  Vocals completely throw off my concentration.

I can also usually do pretty well with lighter indie folk as well, as long as the vocals don't get prominent enough for me to get distracted.
