Fuck yes!
I just got back from Bright Eyes in Saskatoon (three hour commute each way) and it was a very damn good show! Gruff Rhys, guys, is officially pure awesome. He messed up during the first song and the audience was all "YEAH IT'S OKAY YOU STILL ROCK" and he finished it and it was devastatingly beautiful like most of his set was. Also, I won't ruin it, but when he offers to play the song with the birds in it you should accept heartily.
Bright Eyes themselves were pretty good. They played "Train Under Water," "Poison Oak" and a rather spare version of "Lover I Don't Have To Love." Also, Oberst definitely played "First Day Of My Life" solo. I was sad there was no "Bowl Of Oranges" or especially no "Road To Joy" but he's got such a massive catalogue that I guess you can't have it all. It was still pretty radical though.
The venue kinda sucked ass; it was basically part of the city's exhibition grounds and thus was a big concrete room with enormous curtains separating us from backstage and a big beer garden that I hated because it meant that we were in that shitty venue so some promoter could set up a beer garden and make some additional scratch, gahhhhhhhh. And there was no merch. So going into it, there were two strikes, but they managed to hit a decent triple, if not an inside-the-park homerun.
Oh, and most of the audience members were girls, but they weren't complete idiots. The guy in front of me was kind of a different story; after all, Bright Eyes post-Morning is not an appropriate band to throw up the horns for.
I am very excited for Wilco now. Mostly because while Oberst didn't seem to really encourage a lot of audience participation, Wilco's live record indicates they'll be all up on that.
What about you guys? Hit up any of your summer concerts yet? Excited to attend some of them?
