Alchemist - Garden of Eroticism

Lunasphere is an amazing album it's unique progressive and heavy as fuck and the good news is Alchemist goes on to get better and better with every album after this one.

Their cover of Jeff Wayne's Eve of the War is one of the coolest things I've heard.

The Stranglers - "Golden Brown"

Listening to this and comparing it to the rest of their discography, it's hard to believe that it was actually the same band doing both. Is that JJ on vocals? I can't tell.

Also, 13/8 time signature FTW.

Forty ounces to freedom has a really strong reggae influence and that just seems to make it an awesome album to just relax to.

The trouble with Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is that it isn't half as good as the reputation that precedes it. It is nice, yes but a masterpiece? Not in these ears anyway.

Bayon - Deu Da Ling

I love 8daysinapril. Without that blog I would never have been introduced to so many weirds records. This is a Cambodian, a Cuban and a couple of Germans playing sophisticated folk and singing in German. Wonderful.

I've always loved Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, in fact I like it a lot more than Slanted & Enchanted which most people find to be Pavement's best. Anyways, I'm listening to:

Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

My all time favourite Daft Punk song. Reminds me of stealing my older brothers electronica cds when I was in middle school.

Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World.

Aside from being just a kickass song, and having that quintessential 80s bass synth dundun-dundun rhythm that gets me oh so hot, it has a really good bridge figure that the first time you hear the song just blasts out of nowhere and makes you go "ooer" or something similarly endowed with vowels.

Ecco The Dolphin OST - Pteranadon Pond

Now, I'm not sitting here listening to a MIDI track of the music that would have been played on the Megadrive (That's Genesis for practically everyone else). This soundtrack was composed by Spencer Nilson, and everything just comes together. There are so many different sounds and instruments used here, it creates a relaxing ambience, like an underwater orchestra. It's definitely something worth trying to get hold of.

Leadbelly - Fannin Street

I admit that my exposure to the blues(as in the genre) is limited which is why I rounded up a Leadbelly collection. Who according to Allmusic isn't even blues in that he predated the style. So any blues experts on here who can give some recommendations?

Try to pick up a couple of samplers. You can find easily find some great comilations.
A couple of names that I can think of right now; Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins, John Lee Hooker (early recordings), Ronnie Earl (great too), Jimi Hendrix (controversial yes but...), The Black Keys ( their label 'Fat Possum records' has an impeccable reputation by the way) and of course Robert Johnson.

OT

John Hiatt.

He's not cool or hip but I've got a soft spot for him. He's just a great songwriter, a great singer and a fantastic guitar player.

I've got the original Soviet version sung by the Red Army Choir squirreled away somewhere if you want it.

Right now, I'm not listening to anything! I am watching Suspiria, and once I finish watching Suspiria, I shall watch Brazil. Then I shall watch Eraserhead. During this prolonged period I shall be drinking tea and complimenting myself on my absolutely fantastic taste.

KOMPRESSOR - Represent

This is the funniest song I have heard this year. Now you have to imagine that this is all said in a sort of European accent with slow synthpop playing:

No taxation without abomination
Americans wear pants
KOMPRESSOR represant
goverment is lies
why are you surprised
try to pay the rent
KOMPRESSOR represant
we enter town in morning
you try to send a warning
you work for government
KOMPRESSOR represant
all across your town
powerlines are down
your message is not send
KOMPRESSOR represant
soon you lose your job
taken by the mob
your feet are in cement
KOMPRESSOR represant
you escape defeat
and move to Middle East
you have to live in tent
KOMPRESSOR represant!!!

I wanted to go to their concert tonight in Jerusalem, I can even get in for free!
But a wierd mix up of events, lack of funds and a lack of public transportation home fucked everything.
But nevermind, Stephen O'Malley is going to get a nice e-mail and about 52 photos of their concert in Tel Aviv on the 22th.

Scumface - On Holiday With Germans (In F#)

I love Scumface. They tour living rooms and are about to embark on a UK tour of public places from the back of a van. There's just two of them, making some very stupid 30 second songs. With song titles such as "You Take It In The Mouth", "Nobhead" and "Briefcase in the Face", they just utterly crack me up :D

Bathory - Hammerheart

So far the Bathory album I like best and I am not afraid to say that it is because of the production. The production on the ones that came before this one prevented me from actually enjoying the music because it was so incredibly bad. It would be wrong to say Quorthon has(or rather had) a strong voice but nevertheless I prefer it to his sick bm croaking.
