Bathory - Hammerheart

So far the Bathory album I like best and I am not afraid to say that it is because of the production. The production on the ones that came before this one prevented me from actually enjoying the music because it was so incredibly bad. It would be wrong to say Quorthon has(or rather had) a strong voice but nevertheless I prefer it to his sick bm croaking.

Though I remember you laughing at it toward the beginning of the Forced Listening Thread, you should probably try out Ancient Rites if you're really getting in to Hammerheart. I suggest Dim Carcosa, maybe my number one album of all time.

I'm currently on a little nostalgia trip, so it's

Marilyn Manson - Cake and Sodomy

"Red-neck-burn-out-mid-west-mind, "who said date rape isn't kind?"
Porno-nation, evaluation
What's this, "time for segregation"?
Libido, libido fascination, too much oral defecation...
White trash get down on your knees, time for cake and sodomy!"

I love you, man. Because, incidentally, I'm listening to...

Rodan - The Everyday World Of Bodies

Shipping News are ex-ex-Rodan (at least partly). And basically, every band with June of 44-members (both before and after that band) is good by default anyway.
That is, if you like Louisville-style math rock.

Right now, I'm listening to Destroyer's Your Blues. The only misstep on the album is the ugly trumpety synth at the end of Notorious Lightning ("...until someone goes free"), but the rest of the song, as well as the entire album is so breathtaking that I'm just going to forget about it.

I used to hate synths. I feel stupid now.

An awesome song, with an awesome instrument that consists of a green tube that you swing around over your head like a mace to play. It whistles.

Orbital, live at Glastonbury, doing the Doctor Who Techno Theme.

amazing. I saw this once, and the fact that the tune is so closely linked with my childhood just made it even more amazing. chills down my spine and dancing like a loon. linking being terrified as a child behind the sofa to being so happy and uplifted dancing with my friends.

it uses some cool dialogue samples from the classic series too:

"These? Instruments. These are for controlling our flight."
"Flight?"
"Yes, you see we travel around in here through time and space!"
"Ha ha!"
"Oh no no no! Don't laugh, it's true."

Kong - ? (F.D. Part 17.239)

90's Dutch experimental hard rock. I get the impression that they're pretty damn obscure, because locating this album wasn't that easy for me, if nothing else.

I am listening to "Sing a Song of Song" by the C-Sus Jazz Singers.

http://s11.quicksharing.com/v/2997305/01_Sing_a_Song_of_Song.mp3.html

It is, IMO, what modern Jazz is MADE of. This version was re-composed from an old instrumental jazz bit by Kerry Marsh for a 6+ part vocal group. What makes the song so amazing for any jazz musician (vocal or instrumental) isn't the "chorus," (which is pretty simple and repeats just enough to be effective instead of annoying), but that is gives a musician so much room to just take the song and run with it. The song is as complex, basic, bright, moody, etc. etc. as the artist wants. You can always recognize the song when you hear it played/sung by different musicians, but it will never sounds the same.

This version just happens to be ridiculously complex as far as vocal jazz goes...There's just so much depth to it. Note : Listen particularly intently at the 4:00 minute mark and/or turn it up. If you can't at least appreciate it, you don't know what music is.
No, seriously.

Yngwie Malmsteen - I am a Viking

Worth it for the first vocal line alone. In a badass voice...I AM A VIKING, I'M GOING OUT TO WAR. Makes me crack up everytime. Something about an 80s metal style vocalist proclaiming himself to be a Viking, while Yngwie does his ninja-kick routines.

Last night I was at a gay bar and they played Basement Jaxx - Good Luck and segued into Bjork - Army of Me.  It was...unexpected

Right now I am listening to Sia - Colour the Small One

I'm not really sure how I should feel about this album.  While it is undoubtedly beautiful, the lyrics are a bit cheesy and emo.  However, apparently they are autobiographical, so it's not like it's depressing for the sake of being depressing.

Burzum - Hlidskjálf

Simplistic but mystifying, Tuistos Herz is a great track.
Even though I know that Vikernes is a complete and revolting nutcase.
I can still enjoy it on a level completely seperate from his political beliefs.
I simply think of it as nice ambient, bordering on newage, music.

I'm currently listening to epic classical music and metal really fucking loud.

Currently Modest Mussorgsky - A Night on the Bare Mountain

Can't believe that there isn't a heavy metal shredgasmic cover of this floating around somewhere.

I've got Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, The Hall of the Mountain King, The Imperial March and Ride of the Valkyries queued up after this, then we're on to the Therion.

AWESOME.

At first when i listened to this album it sorta came out as flat and repititive, but after a few more listens i have discovered that this album is fucking mindnumbing. I haven't really heard anything else by them except from single tracks like Summer and Luvstory, but this has got me hungry for more. In I Chose Horses the vocals kinda reminds me of Envy..

Good news Kai! They are! They are going to release a new album next year. Both Kirkwoods, they've made up and are practicing together. No Derrick on drums but Tim Alexander from Primus is taking over. So go clean your pants.

But anyway,
Fiery Furnaces -- EP , ok Blueberry boat is certainly their most well crafted and probably best album but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for EP, I guess it's a more friendly version of the FF's.

Ulver - It is Not Sound

I was wrong about Blood Inside. It's actually a pretty good album. Not Perdition City kind of good, Blood Inside is less ambient electronica and more industrial/ethereal electronica.
