Yep, I'm been in a funny mood lately, I'm kind of excited about the new Maiden album, so I've been blasting everything Maiden related for the last few days, yesterday it was Bruce's solo album's and today its just misc, maiden related tracks I have in my mp3 collection.

At the moment it's Dream Theater with Bruce Dickinson covering 'Perfect Strangers'. Pretty cool track.

James Figurine - You Again

Ohmygodit's Jimmy Tamborello doing electropop again.

It's no Give Up, but it's a good stopgap as we all wait and count the days to the next Postal Service LP.

Been listening to Monolake's first album, 'Hong Kong'.  Works really well on a rainy day with all of the found sounds mixing in with the rain on the roof.

Yeah, not sure about this album.  I bought it on the strength of 'Apologies' and the fact I obsessed over both the Dntel and Postal Service albums for at least a year a piece.  But really his singing is a bit awful from time to time, lyrically it can be quite annoying (particularly that opening song about phone texting), and his points of inspiration (Kompakt records style German techno) are a lot more fun than most of this.  IMO.

'Apologies' does rule though.. I love how the rrow rrow bass sound has been growling away through different genres for years and is somehow still not played out... and the simplicity of it compared to some of the other tracks is a real virtue.  In fact I have to listen to it right now!

SA is really only one person, Anna-Varney. The Ensemble of Shadows are the voices in her head. An incredible listening experience any which-way.

I'm currently listening to

Paul Giovanni & Magnet - Willows Song

The soundtrack to The Wicker Man is one of the best things ever.

Dimmu Borgir. If you watch the 'Progeny of the Great Apocalypse' video (nigh on certainly on youtube) he's the one who sings and plays the guitar in front of the raining nuclear bombs.

I'm currently listening to

Sol Invictus - God Told me To

"DAMN THE LAMB AND CURSE THE DOVE!"

Tony Wakeford does not pull his punches.

Woods of Ypres - The Will to Give

If you are a fan of bands such as Ulver, Arcturus, Borknagar and Agalloch, then these canucks are well worth checking out.

"It is the discomfort that sets us apart
That wakes us up, that puts us to sleep
It is our pathetic moments
Which make us desire to be great

It is the starving itself
That makes us hungry to want more
Over time as you learn to fall
You'll rise to your feet faster than the time before"

Ant Farmer - My Kinda Love

I got this CD from the library.  It is amazing flugelhorn jazz.  Extremely melodic, which is just perfect for the flugelhorn.

Disappointingly, though, I ran a search for other albums by him, and could find none.

Envy - Insomniac Doze.

I''ll confess, I never heard of them until their singer did the guest vocal on the new Mogwai, but damn am I glad I caught up...I have no clue what the lyrics are since they're in Japanese and I'm too lazy to look them up, but I kind of want them to be really huge and epic and profound, because the way their singer delivers, it just seems like they should be.

I'm currently listening to a bit of Sol Invictus (Abattoirs of Love to be precise) but after supper, I will be dusting off the old Beyerdynamics, firing up the record player and sitting down with a bottle of Wychcraft to listen to the Burzum and Laibach vinyl I just bought in London.

I am nigh on in a state of erection at this very thought.

Kristeen Young - Goddamn You, You Scenesters

I saw her open for Morrisey a couple months ago, and thought she was really interesting to listen to. Anyway, I got home, googled her, misspelt her name "Christine" and found, well... you google Christine Young if you really want to know. Anyway, I was browsing through a.b.sounds.mp3.indie the other day, saw her album "X" for download, guessed it was the same person, and downloaded it. She's not quite as I thought she was going to be, and is slightly more generic punk-band-with-female-lead-singer than I'd excepected, but she's still a frightfully good listen. Plus, her drummer is outrageously gae, which is always a plus.

edit: plus she's 50% Apache, 50% German, 100% hawt.
