Ted Leo - Sons of Cain

Methinks you're missing the point of Black Metal...

Really? 'cos I enjoy all the black metal I've heard that isn't CoF. What's the point of Black Metal... then?

Collections Of Colonies Of Bees - Fun

Although this isn't saying much because all the songs on the album are called Fun, except for the last, which is called Funeral.

Failing that, perhaps you're just missing the point of CoF. I don't know but I've always absolutely loved the vocals and Dani Filth is probably one of the biggest musical influences for my role as a BM vocalist. I might just have a soft spot for the band in general as they were the first band I ever heard that wasn't the shit that they play on the radio stations my mum would make me listen to as a kid (Read Christian Radio). The Forest Whispers My Name was the song that got me into Metal when I was about 10. The only real criticism I have for Thornography is that they have the dude from HIM on it. And I hate that band. Hate hate hate.

I also just bought Year Zero (the new NIN album) and it's quite good. I'd say it's on par with With Teeth which I enjoyed but it's not their best album. It's not bad, but they've done much better.

ahh I can't stand he's voice at all sorry :(

BM vocalists I really like are Nocturno Culto from Darkthrone and Tom G Warrior from Hellhammer/ Celtic Frost for the raspy style and  Ihsahn from Emperor for the more "shrieked" style.

For the sheer intensity of he's vocals my favorite has to be Varg from Burzum. The guy puts everything into he's vocals, listen to tracks like "Beholding the Daughters of the Firmament"  that track gives me the shivers...

Samael - Total Consecration

Nice bit of piano ambiance, with rather creepy\cheesy lyrics chanted over the top

"From the north, from the south
From the west, from the east
I summon you, god of the pit
Come to us, infernal legions

Satan, father of men, god of gods
Take a look at your children
Tonight, they give you their souls"

Dead Meadow - I Love You Too

Failing that, perhaps you're just missing the point of CoF.

Fair enough, I'd definitely agree with that :P I like the instrumentals on some of the tracks (Amor E Morte has some decent guitar work) but I just can't get past Dani's yelping. I can deal with the more growly style on most BM but it's just that high-pitched screeching that gets to me. Not my thing :)

Alcest - Tir Nan Og

It is not metal but oh so pretty. Bongos, nonsense vocals, synth strings, sparkling piano and that marvelous guitar.
Dangerously close to veering into new age territory but the song keeps on the right side.

This. Awesome last track, the CD gradually gets more and more intense and sucks you in, then lets you down gently with a 5-minute acoustic hippy-fest... brilliant.

Ugh, this is awful... I was reading the QC archives and came across a mention of a band called Deerhoof and a song called Panda Panda Panda... dumbly, I didn't think it was any big deal so I went and I downloaded the song... MY GOD IT HAS BEEN STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR EIGHT HOURS!

Pan-da pan-da pan-da pan pan-da I like...

That and Animal Collective...

My brother has now accused me of doing crack and is searching my room.

You're spreading the virus Chick.

Listening to Sinner's Prayer by Ray Charles,

It finished while I was typing and now I'm onto Iambic 9 Pentameter by Squarepusher... does anyone else know any Squarepusher? If so... what's your favourite album of his?

Because Squarepushers albums are so different, I don't think I could pick a favourite...but I do really like both Music Is Rotted One Note and Go Plastic.

Atomsmasher - Gilgamesh

Another of Jim Plotkins projects, with him editing drum samples recorded by Dave Witte with singing/screaming/gargling over the top by DJ Speedranch.  The most electronic-hypergrind ever!

Sounds ace... I might pick that up.

Go Plastic's one of my favourites too... though I think Ultravisitor is probably my favourite. The drumming on Iambic 9 is ace.
I found his new one, Hello Everything, pretty disappointing when I first got it, but it really grows on you.

Are you listening to Stemage's Metroid Metal? It's pretty good.

But anyway... right now:

Echoes - Pink Floyd

The best song ever. Period.

Yeah, the song is 23 minutes long, but so what? It is the best song ever, by the best band ever.

Listen to it, if you haven't already.

It is much better than all that indie-country-death-rap-neo-pop-emo-hobocore junk out there.

Given to the Rising is probably one of the best albums of 2007. Steve Albini has done some pretty good work with them, but it still got that Neurosis sound.

In short: this is a good record! Go buy it, guys.
