Noise Rock and Such
Rubby:
Boredoms and OOIOO!
KharBevNor:
I've tried listening to a few of these bands, and they seem to come off to me as somewhat flat and listless, not really heavy or rocking or anything. I quite like power electronics though, anyone suggest any noise bands more like, say, Whitehouse, and less like Lightning Bolt, who I thought were boring when I listened to them. Or maybe even something veering more towards, say, Earth, Electric Wizard, Sunn O))), that kind of territory.
It's not that I can't take sonic abuse, I listen to artists like Terrorfakt and Navicon Torture Technologies, and I should probably like some noise rock, it's just I dunno what.
a pack of wolves:
Have you tried Unsane? They are both heavy and rocking, and although I like 'Scrape', their most famous song, it's by no means their best so they warrant a little more investigation than just watching the really funny video with all the skaters falling over.
Plus, noise rock is a funny term. The bands who've been mentioned so far in this thread are pretty diverse and seem to cover just about anything that can have the term 'noise' applied to it, from full-on nastiness like Whitehouse to Lightning Bolt, who're pretty conventional and catchy really. They only get nasty due to the massive volume they use, and that's getting a bit old really. Last time I saw them they were assively outclassed by DJ Scotch Egg... anyway, to wander back to the point I'd recommend checking out a few more of the bands listed here since there's a good variety. And as for something a bit noise but more in the doom vein I'd recommend Red Right Hand. Crushing band, think slow, nasty doom with brutal screamed vocals and lots of feedback. One of the most intense live acts I've ever come across.

oh goodness no.
though this thread's heart might be in the right place, through away every reply in it.
just listen to brainbombs or the hospitals and advance from there. if you're interested in something else, then go on from there as well.

--- Quote from: kevin gee ---I really wouldn't call Sonic Youth a noise band.

I agree with this, mainly concerning their main albums (although they certainly like and use noise). Also, I've never understood why Confusion is Sex is considered so inaccessible. Bad Moon Rising, maybe, but my experience is that Confusion is Sex is pretty easy to get into, and I don't think it's half as abrasive, low-fi, or scary as people think it is. It's just a great album.
Any way, I must admit I don't really have any noise albums. I do have some that are noisy, but I'm also more picky than some people about what I'd call noise.
