Noise Rock and Such
Keith Decent:
I've come to realize that all I ever really do here is chime in with local New York bands.
So I figure why break form tradition?

Also definitely check out Fragile Porcelain Mice. Brilliance.
a pack of wolves:
This thread has pretty much the best listing of bands I've ever seen on this forum. Almost all of them make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I'd recommend getting some Orthrelm in your life. Everybody needs some Orthrelm and if you get the split with Trencher then you've got some excellent casio sort-of-grind action as well (they're kind of like the UK's answer to The Locust. Not copyists or anything, they're just in a similar vein and about as good). I'm also saddened that this thread has gone on as long as it has without anybody mentioning Unsane or just recommending buying pretty much anything that was ever released on Amphetamine Reptile. Alright, so it's not all great but you won't go too far wrong.
Energy Turtle:
seconding Melt Banana, fucking awesome band.
also, Neon Blonde, and Erase Erata's Nightlife album are pretty cool.
I can't say anything about there other albums though as Nightlife is the only one I've heard.
kevin gee:
I really wouldn't call Sonic Youth a noise band.
bands I'd call noise:
Hair Police
Wolf Eyes
Viki
whitehouse
The Punks
Metalux
Witchypoo
The Replikants
Men's Recovery Project
Rah Brahs
Black Dice
and maybe:
Hella
Lightning Bolt
Throbbing Gristle
Japanther (sometimes)
The thing is, I don't think noise bands usually use real instruments in their music, mose of the noise comes from using drum machines and effect pedals and weird home made noisey mechanisms and stuff.
Sonic Youth, Lightning Bolt, and Hella all use instruments, but I'd call Lightning Bolt and Hella noise because of the chaotic sound they have. Sonic Youth wrote really simple Ramones-y/Stooge-y pop songs and played feedback over them for the most part.
Wolf Eyes played at my school, and while I haven't been to many noise shows, I was sort of underwhelmed. Apparently they were huge dicks and asked for a lot of money too.
I must recommend Troubleman Mix Tape on Troubleman Unlimited Records for noise stuff. It's a two disc set with mostly noise and a few sort of random things included (Sean Na Na w/ Lois?), but everything is so awesome it doesn't matter at all.
