2006 Albums Discussion

Storm Rider:
I forgot that Evergrey - Monday Morning Apocalypse was released early this year, and although it wasn't anything amazing, it was definitely enjoyable.

And frickin' ARSIS has a new album out this year, and if it's anything even close to A Celebration of Guilt, then it will definitely rival Agalloch for the top spot.

Praeserpium Machinarum:
There is a lot of records coming out later this year that I am looking forward to - Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Mastodon, Blood Brothers and so on. Also I haven't heard the new Wäldchengarten album yet. So this is by no means a definitive list. But I don't think much can rival the Under Byen album.

1. Under Byen - Samme Stof Som Stof
2. Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
3. Erase Errata - Nightlife
4. The Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia
5. The Black Heart Procession - The Spell
6. Matisyahu - Youth

I just realised that I haven't heard much new stuff this year - much like last year actually. Curse insufficient funds!

This is no excuse for having Matisyahu in your list and not having TVOTR.

I checked out that album and thought it was realllllllly boring. I'm not getting the buzz, personally.

I have a problem of knowing what years things came out, but I think so far:

Paul Simon - Surprise (Mostly because I'm a Paul Simon nut)
David Gilmour - On an Island (Didn't think I would like it, but did)
Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit (The Best thing they've put out in YEARS).
The Knife - Silent Shout
Mogwai - Mr. Beast

Stuff I like so far, but we'll see how I feel later:

Bob Dylan - Modern Times, Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea, The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine, The Streets - The Hardest Way to Make An Easy Living

Stuff I did not like:

Matisyahu - Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium, Thom Yorke - The Erasor, TV On the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain, Danielson - Ships Beirut - Gulag Orkestar

Storm Rider:
Man, I forgot Mastodon too. The single from their new album is on their website. It sounds just like Leviathan, which is great as far as I'm concerned.

dancarter:
Hmm, I don't know if I'll have ten picks here.  Anyway.  Onwards.

1. Android Lust - Devour, Rise, and Take Flight
2. The Wretch - Northern Air + Passageways
3. Frontline Assembly - Artificial Soldier
4. Placebo - Meds (yeah, again)
5. Zombie Girl -  Back from the Dead EPCD
6. Leather Strip - Walking on Volcanoes
7. Coil - The Remote Viewer + Black Antlers(digitally remastered)
