Velvet Cacoon is probably the most amusing BM band I've come across.

I'm not usually a fan of all that discordant atonal stuff, but El opium, I think you'll like  Blut Aus Nord's "The Work Which Transforms God". It has structure in it and I guess you could say it has melody but it's weird and atonal enough to please you out I'm sure.

I was at a party that played a Sum 41 album all the way through THREE TIMES a few days ago.
It had poppy punk, metal and a saxaphone solo.
Sum 41 are just embarassing. Except for 'Does this look infected' which had  a bonus track about world war 7 or something which was basically a story about the war between man and machine told in the Terminator. I liked the Terminator, so I have to think that song is pretty cool, however much it sounds exactly like every other track on the album.
I secretly liked a pretty big chunk of the Skull Ring album. It's all pretty much all just shallow filler if I can remember correctly, but it's easy to enjoy it.
I must have listenned to that album about 3 whole times before I deleted it.

It's really weird that a lot of Iggy's more recent material has been on par with something like Sum 41. Next he'll make a punk album with Saxophones or something lame.*

I have NEVER met anybody in person who claims to like punk AND likes Iggy Pop. Actually, every time I try to talk to somebody about Iggy Pop, they say 'He's old and shit'. I mention the Stooges and they ask 'What, you mean like, the three stooges?'. I ask what the best punk band of all time is. THREE people have given me this EXACT WORD FOR WORD answer. Granted, they live together so they'd have probably discussed it with eachother in the past.
"It's either the Sex Pistols or the Dead Kennedys. Probably the Pistols because they came first."

I nearly died.

The only people I have ever met who say they like Iggy Pop are my dad, and some other dude. The other dude likes the Libertines though, so he must have heard some cool kids saying 'Yeah, I love Iggy Pop. I play funhouse everyday'.

*Yes. I know. I like it too.Of COURSE I was joking.

The volume of the stuff in things like lagers, cokes, cakes etc was never enough to triggor the reaction; But now that Irn Bru caused that to begin, i can't drink or eat any of that stuff, eg: Pizza, Dried fruit, lager etc.

Theres a reason America doesn't allow it over there.

Black metal can be some of the most emotionally charged music certainly I've ever heard. In fact, at it's best I would say the genre is all about a 'pure' expression of emotion. It's about catharsis more than empathy maybe, but the feelings of artists such as Burzum, Xasthur and Abyssic Hate are abundantly clear.

As far as empathy meaning 'relate to the singer' (rather than just experience his or her emotions)...well,  FUCKING SKYCLAD.

Seriously, I've never heard anyone bare all like Martin Walkyier does, not in such style anyway. Except perhaps Douglas Pearce, now I come to think of it. Both musical idols of mine anyway. Normally, however, metal isn't about everyday issues in such a straightforward way as Skyclad. This is not to say metal is meaningless, or that there is no way of relating with the singer, but rather that the relationship is normally on a different level, ie imagination/intellectual. Metal is also vastly emotionally stimulating in over ways: it's elatory, energetic, fun, and when it actually clicks, the 'brothers and sisters in metal!' thing, in a crowd or at a festival or something, is just the greatest thing ever.

I'm going to recommend some of my favourite bands right now and NOT be a stereotypical forum goer and argue what and what doesn't classify as a) good b)punk. These might deviate from the label "punk", all at their own respective degrees, but they've all got punk elements in them and are generally enjoyed by punk fans.

Jawbreaker, Jawbox, The Lawrence Arms, Misfits, Closet Monster, At The Drive-In, Cap'n Jazz, The Methadones, The Jam, Alkaline Trio, Turbonegro, Sleater-Kinney, Bratmobile, Hot Water Music, Small Brown Bike, Blood Brothers, Iggy & The Stooges, Adolescents, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Propagandhi, Shellac, Shiner & Television.

I've been making a lot of Trogdor the Burninator jokes whilst I listen to a certain Slint album recently but it isn't cutting it. I need something more forum based, maybe a bit ironic, and definitely REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING.

Anyone got any ideas?

Spiderland is the album you're looking for, and I really recommend it. I think it's one of the seminal black metal albums out there. You should really check out songs like "Grim And Frostbitten Demons Of Sathanis Sacrifcing Impaled Jesus On The Unholy Altar Of Don (A Man)", "Infernal Greetings And Salutations, Necrocaptain" and of course ... er ... "Nosferatu Man".

This thread is now about songs that reference soda pop.

Let's start with 'Bone Machine' by the Pixies.

"I was talking to preachy-preach about kissy-kiss
He bought me a soda
He bought me a soda
He bought me a soda and he tried to molest me in the parking lot
Yep, yep yep yep!"

Man I hate the internet, just because of the word meme.

A single unit of cultural information. Such an awesome word. I liked to use it when a good reason came up, it's a good concept. But that is not what a meme is viewed as now. A meme is chuck norris' anal prolapse. A meme is motherfucking snakes on a motherfucking plane.
