Oh hell, the entire Quest for Glory series is simply amazing, but if I was going to include any PC games for my lists, I would have spent another hour making it. :P
Honestly, I'm picky as hell when it comes to RPG's, and I seriously think Chrono Trigger was probably one of the best RPGs ever made. Definitely THE best that never seemed to influenced it's genre. :P Of course, I don't think Square has made a particularly good Final Fantasy since 7, and even 7 i thought was merely good.
In all seriousness, what exactly did you find to be childish about Chrono Trigger? For me, the story gave off nothing but a very well done and mature storyline, and very dark at points, with a good dose of humor to keep it from going stale.
Seriously, not looking for an argument on the matter, I'm just very curious.

--- Quote from: Catfish_Man on 17 Dec 2006, 00:46 ---My issues with Lufia 1 were mostly a) some quirks about the combat system, and b) the lack of puzzles. I really feel the rotation between four gameplay types (exploration, plot, combat, puzzles) kept the sequel from feeling like grinding, which is all too common in most RPGs including Lufia 1. It's still a decent enough game, but it doesn't stand out from the pack the way 2 does.
Let's see... some other fun ones:
Brain Lord - Strange game, but quite good imo. I didn't like the ending section though (4th and 5th dungeon. The 5th one was neat... but it just got tiresome, particularly the dark areas. The second is probably my favorite).
FF6 is indeed excellent, although unlike most people I cannot understand the obsession with chrono trigger. I found it childish in far too many places, and didn't like some of the mechanics. If something's going to be that long it'd better be A+ list quality, and I don't feel CT makes the cut.
Terranigma got me all excited by being amazingly creative, but then I ended up disliking the game after the first hour or so.
In case you can't tell, I'm a hella picky RPG player. Pick up a few old PC RPGs while you're at it. Castle of the Winds if you're feeling really retro, and Quest for Glory (4 in particular) if you want to see a level of care and love they just don't put into games anymore.

Well, as I played Lufia 1 first before Lufia 2 I actually found Lufia 2 "too easy" sometimes and in a way to childish =P (Lufia 1 is a helluva challenge...)
Quest for glory! Yeah, now we are talking. (All the quest games are great btw. I own the whole kq and sq series and have been brought up with them).
The first one is actually the one I liked best as I have it home (in the name Hero's Quest) on 5.25 floppies and it was that game and it's sequel which actually made me learn English (search was the hardest word I knew I was little =P, but I had to learn it because the "search body" command) before my English education began (and I have always been best in class since).

Ah, I also liked Chrono Trigger. Mostly because of the battle system, the story and the possibility of the multiple endings (although I never finished the New+ endings).
The nice part is (spoiled select the following text to read it)that you can decide Chrono's destiny by helping him or not.

65,000,000 BC and to a lesser extent, the future time period. I mean, clich?s are an absolute staple of SNES RPGs, but CT takes it a little too far. I also have some other issues that I can't quite describe... the game just grates on me somehow (although parts are quite good).

Man, there was certainly nothing childish about Lufia 2 when it comes to story or emotional impact. Unless you count the capsule monsters. Those buggers were adorably lethal.
Quest for Glory 2 is probably my favorite of the entire series, but oh god it's so damn hard to choose between them :P
I have some sites for you...
http://www.agdinteractive.com/
They have VGA remakes of King's Quest 1 & 2 with music and voice packs that are optional downloads. AMAZING remakes of those games. The remake they are currently working on is a VGA remake of Quest for Glory 2. They are currently in Alpha testing phase and it'll be a few months before it's released, but I'm getting ready to build a character in QFG1 and have him ready for import :P
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/kq3/
That site has a VGA remake of King's Quest 3. Not quite up to the level of detail and skill that AGD's remake's are, but damn close. also has a voice pack for optional download.

They are currently working on a VGA remake of King's Quest 4. It's looking very promising.
Also, since it seems liek you have a real appreciation of the classics...
