Yeah, but I have no doubt that they cut out all of the hilarious dialogue for the ratings board. Seriously, it's worth emulating for the boat scene alone.

Seiken Densetsu 3 is also a wonderful game and a must play! ... but wait. That's probably what you meant with Secret of Mana 2, sorry, my bad.
And if you like Lufia 2 and want a real challenge play Lufia 1 (I never completed it but I have a friend who did)

--- End quote ---

Ah yes, Seiken Densetsu 3 is what i meant by Secret of Mana 2, just couldn't recall the actual name at the time :P It has been edited

I would have put Lufia 1 on there, but after playing Lufia 2, the story to me just wasn't up to par. I fi had played 1 first i think i wold ahve loved it though.

What's sad, is I'm pretty certain I'm missing a few games on that list :(

Well. I agree that it feels like something's missing. But I can't say what... maybe Star Ocean (although I never finished it actually).

Catfish_Man:
My issues with Lufia 1 were mostly a) some quirks about the combat system, and b) the lack of puzzles. I really feel the rotation between four gameplay types (exploration, plot, combat, puzzles) kept the sequel from feeling like grinding, which is all too common in most RPGs including Lufia 1. It's still a decent enough game, but it doesn't stand out from the pack the way 2 does.

Let's see... some other fun ones:
Brain Lord - Strange game, but quite good imo. I didn't like the ending section though (4th and 5th dungeon. The 5th one was neat... but it just got tiresome, particularly the dark areas. The second is probably my favorite).

FF6 is indeed excellent, although unlike most people I cannot understand the obsession with chrono trigger. I found it childish in far too many places, and didn't like some of the mechanics. If something's going to be that long it'd better be A+ list quality, and I don't feel CT makes the cut.

Terranigma got me all excited by being amazingly creative, but then I ended up disliking the game after the first hour or so.

In case you can't tell, I'm a hella picky RPG player. Pick up a few old PC RPGs while you're at it. Castle of the Winds if you're feeling really retro, and Quest for Glory (4 in particular) if you want to see a level of care and love they just don't put into games anymore.

NES games
--------> Bubble Bobble! <--------
the original NES Zelda is pretty decent, although not up to LttP/OoT quality (and apparently TP, which I still haven't played).
