www.emuparadise.org has some good emulators. The Genesis emu is pretty great; also I have a pretty decent Playstation emulator, if you want it feel free to PM me or hit me up on AIM, and I can send it to you.

I don't have anything in particular against emulation; it's how I played Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger the first time. But I really like the Virtual Console: It's guaranteed perfect emulation of bunches of really good games, at pretty affordable prices. One of my problems with emulators is that playing console games with a keyboard always feels a bit awkward. With the Classic Controller or even a Gamecube controller, it just feels better. Not to mention I don't liken emulation to downloading music; because I actually don't mind giving game publishers money like I do with record labels.
For those that are curious: The list of released and announced VC games for North America and Europe.
Even though all releases so far have been first party Nintendo/Sega/Hudson games except for Solomon's Key, it looks like third parties are jumping on board with the service pretty rapidly. Most major publishers that were around during those eras (Capcom, Konami, Square, etc.) have already declared plans to bring games to the VC.
Sorry for turning this into the Virtual Console thread.

Get yourself a controller if you dont have one. A $20 logitech rumblepad will cover you for everything from NES games to PSX games.
ZSNES, JNES, ePSXe, Genecyst, and Project 64 are all good emulators for their respective systems.
As far as games, your best bet is to BT them. Every game made for the SNES & NES will cost you just over 2GB of space, and its much easier to get them that way than to dl them one at a time from spyware-infected emu sites.

Games to so get for the SNES:
Mortal Kombat
Donkey Kong
Mega Man
Castlevania
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Get the good games of each of these, of course. For example, get TMNT: Turtles in Time, rather than the fighting game.
I would also recommend getting a controller, particularly if you're going to play N64 or Playstation games. It's just awkward without a controller.
