Recommend some games that appeal to old school gamers

Darwinia is pretty cool.

I had a Castlevania game on my SNES, I thought the game was pretty crap but the music kicked ass, I used to play the first stage over and over again cause the theme music was so cool.

Narr:
Simon's Theme from Castlevania 4 is indeed an awesome track.  It's a hidden track on Portrait of Ruin.

The Castlevania games that have been released since Symphony of the Night are a lot different from their origin titles.  Think Metroid, but with gothic vampire-hunter appeal.  I love them.  Fantastic series, in my opinion.

If you're looking for old-school appeal, invest money into your DS library.  They've got some mighty awesome side-scrollers and strategy games.

Final Fantasy Origins.  Old skoo' to tha max, with big shiny videos and fancy new graphics for those people who need a distraction from the awesomeness that is the original battle system.

Sadly, I have to agree that portable systems are the only way to go for that classic gaming feel most of the time, though I have heard good things about the new Rampage title.

Also, if you can stand it, the GC remake of Resident Evil.  Hard as all get out, and freaky in the extreme.

Man, I know people will think I'm crazy for this, but fuck Final Fantasy Origins. I honestly found the old NES game much more enjoyable. The load times in the FF re-releases on the PS1 were the only thing could have possibly made me hate playing FF I, II, IV, VI and Chrono Trigger. Bestiary's were cool though. Even with the huge fucking change in the magic system in it, I'd recommend Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls for the GBA over Origins any day. Just aquire the original games in some other fashion.

As far as newer games... God Hand. Some of the most fun I've ever had with a Beat em Up.
