Re Burzum I don't think his later style music was really that interesting... "hvis lysset tar oss" forever of course, especially because the so-named song has probably a place in the hall of the 100 most relevant lyrics ever.
Re Ulver I think Nattens Madrigal is great in its own way...
Re Emperor You'd probably wish for another ITNE. Think that is going to happen?
Now we dream of another pre-masquerade Arcturus album.
I've met young BM fans who do not know Emperor, much less ITNE. Is using lethal force justified in these cases?
Now I have to excuse myself, I'm still working on trying to find the meaning in Reinkaos (which does not yet sound different from a million other Gothenburg style albums to me).
Hmm, Filosofem and Bergtatt are two of my favorite albums, if not my two favorite. HLTO is another masterpiece of an album, I know a lot of BM fans are pretty divided over whether they prefer the S/T and Aske to the Last two bm Burzum albums, I'm definitely in the later category. If Varg ever gets out of jail, should be this year or next I think??? I'd be pretty eager to hear what he comes out with, I'm not expecting another masterpiece but I still think he's quite capable of putting out some good BM.
With Respect to Emperor, I'd like them to put out something new, not just rehash ITNE, Prometheus is a damn good album they really didn't get enough credit for, but you could kind of tell that Samoth and Ihsahn wanted to take the band in different directions, which no doubt contributed to their breakup. I probably sound like a Kvlt wanker but as far as early Emperor goes, I really like their S/T ep and Wrath of the Tyrant demo, you can get the Candelight re-issue with the two on one cd, which is pretty good value, I think. I like the S/T version of Cosmic Keys, better then the one on ITNE, I dunno the keyboards are a bit subtler and I think it works very well. Hell I love just about everything Emperor has done, their split with Thorns is amazing and pretty unique for them, Emperor's version of "Ærie Descent" is really good, not as good as the original but a damn good cover.
As for Arcturus (I assume your nicknames from La Masquerade?) I really like Sham Mirror's, Sideshow Symphonies, yeah not such a fan, put they were certainly an interesting and unique band. Shame they split up, could have gone in some pretty interesting directions with ICS Vortex.

Moving away from metal, whats up with all the Mars Volta hate on this board. I guess it's painfully obvious my tastes differ quite significantly from most of this board but I honestly think Mars Volta are one of the best bands around today. I've seen them live twice and they're right up there with my favorite concerts, they're strength is definitely as a live outfit.
That said, they're albums are great too Amputechture was one of the standout albums for me last year. I think at some point it became cool for all the indie scene wankers to dislike them. Something I've never been able to fathom, all the metal and prog heads I know seem to really like them and the more 'Indie' people don't, it's definately an odd phenomenon, Either way they're one of the most interesting bands around at the moment, it makes me glad they're not pandering to the critics, as long as they keep releasing innovative and expressive music I'll continue to be happy.
