I'd say thats pretty debateable, there's a hel of a lot more poeple whom like newer Ulver then their BM albums, besides, there's a heap of bands realesing stuff that sounds like bm era Ulver. The album wouldn't be unique anymore.

Well, I didn't mean it as in "I wish they would re-release Bergtatt". I think they could still pull off a unique metal album today.

Rage Against the Machine.

Dude, they're totally getting back together one more time this summer.  I can't remember if it's for one show or a whole tour, but they're doing it.

'Sides, we've still got Audioslave.

Audioslave have split up, Chris Cornell walked out, hence Rage gettng back together. Pretty non-plussed by either band to be honest.

There are two live recorded NEW Godspeed songs about, which they played on their final tour: Albanian and Gamalan. Should be

I've actually heard both- had 'em on my ipod a while back. Those two tracks are what really got me excited for a new album b/c they are really really great. Typical, epic Godspeed but very awesome nonetheless (or as a result I should say). I'm sure we can expect a new album, I just have no idea when.

Then the band's website lies, it told me Audioslave put out an album in the last 6 months or so/is putting out an album within the next 6 months

But, in the interest of furthering the thread, I'll say Johnny Cash.

dude they already reunited

Yeah until all egotistic hell broke loose...

That best of album was shelved and their summer tour stopped in mid February because of internal quarrels, Eddie Van Halen entered rehab in March, and neither Roth or Hagar is said to be the lead singer... so I still say, "Yeah they need to be reunited, quit their bitching and create another Van Halen Album."

For the sake of the Thread I'll say, "Damn Yankees"

I want to hear Crosby, Stills and Nash put out a new record, if the three of them are still alive. Neil Young is okay but needs to learn to not consistently be flat in every song he sings.

At The Drive-In were a pretty okay band, and In/Casino/Out is a nice album.

On the other hand, both the Mars Volta and Sparta are pretty dire.

Re Burzum I don't think his later style music was really that interesting... "hvis lysset tar oss" forever of course, especially because the so-named song has probably a place in the hall of the 100 most relevant lyrics ever.

Re Ulver I think Nattens Madrigal is great in its own way...

Re Emperor You'd probably wish for another ITNE. Think that is going to happen?

Now we dream of another pre-masquerade Arcturus album.

I've met young BM fans who do not know Emperor, much less ITNE. Is using lethal force justified in these cases?

Now I have to excuse myself, I'm still working on trying to find the meaning in Reinkaos (which does not yet sound different from a million other Gothenburg style albums to me).

Acrobatic Tenement is a classic album, and I always felt it had more of an indie rock sound than any of their other stuff. Most people only give them the credit of Relationship on Command, which still, for a band that produced as much music as ATDI did. I/C/O is still a great album though.

It always bothered me that Cedric said ATDI was holding him back. Almost every album and EP had its own feel and sound, and I don't really think he made any leaps and bounds in the stuff  he has done with the Volta.

I don't know, as much as i love them, things were going downhill in the last few albums so I must say i'm not that keen on a new album.

Now, I do wish Blake Schwarzenbach got either Jawbreaker or Jets to Brazil back together or (possibly even better) gformed a new band, i would weep tears of joy.

Portishead are in the middle of recording their third album.  It's taking a while, but apparently they're actually laying stuff down.

I think I'll beat the band and say New Order.

I didn't think there was anyone I'd really like to see reform since they usually seem a bit crap to me, but I recently found out Spy Versus Spy are reforming for one gig to celebrate ten years of Out of Spite and I've been rinsing the self-titled ep since. The best emo band ever, one final gig and I don't even have to travel.

Hmm, Filosofem and Bergtatt are two of my favorite albums, if not my two favorite. HLTO is another masterpiece of an album, I know a lot of BM fans are pretty divided over whether they prefer the S/T and Aske to the Last two bm Burzum albums, I'm definitely in the later category.  If Varg ever gets out of jail, should be this year or next I think??? I'd be pretty eager to hear what he comes out with, I'm not expecting another masterpiece but I still think he's quite capable of putting out some good BM.

With Respect to Emperor, I'd like them to put out something new, not just rehash ITNE, Prometheus is a damn good album they really didn't get enough credit for, but you could kind of tell that Samoth and Ihsahn wanted to take the band in different directions, which no doubt contributed to their breakup.  I probably sound like a Kvlt wanker but as far as early Emperor goes, I really like their S/T ep and Wrath of the Tyrant demo, you can get the Candelight re-issue with the two on one cd, which is pretty good value, I think. I like the S/T version of Cosmic Keys, better then the one on ITNE, I dunno the keyboards are a bit subtler and I think it works very well.  Hell I love just about everything Emperor has done, their split with Thorns is amazing and pretty unique for them, Emperor's version of  "Ærie Descent" is really good, not as good as the original but a damn good cover.

As for Arcturus (I assume your nicknames from La Masquerade?) I really like Sham Mirror's, Sideshow Symphonies, yeah not such a fan, put they were certainly an interesting and unique band. Shame they split up, could have gone in some pretty interesting directions with ICS Vortex.

***

Moving away from metal, whats up with all the Mars Volta hate on this board.  I guess it's painfully obvious my tastes differ quite significantly from most of this board but I honestly think Mars Volta are one of the best bands around today. I've seen them live twice and they're right up there with my favorite concerts, they're strength is definitely as a live outfit.

That said, they're albums are great too Amputechture was one of the standout albums for me last year. I think at some point it became cool for all the indie scene wankers to dislike them. Something I've never been able to fathom, all the metal and prog heads I know seem to really like them and the more 'Indie' people don't, it's definately an odd phenomenon, Either way they're one of the most interesting bands around at the moment, it makes me glad they're not pandering to the critics, as long as they keep releasing innovative and expressive music I'll continue to be happy.

TEST ICICLES.

They were three cunts with no drummer, and since they split the guitarist had to sell his guitar on eBay to finance a solo record. Which was awful. The vocalist works in a zoo now, and the bassist is now in a band called RAT::ATT::AGG. Which is also awful... But they made really great electro-indie-metal-rap (honest to god) together.

On another note, The Libertines really have to get back together. Just to stop hyped-up nostalgic journalists printing reunion stories if they're spotted in a pub together. And both Babyshambles, Dirty Pretty Things and Yeti (John Lissack's failed band) are and were completely terrible.

...In another vein, which bands d'you think should split up?

so... pushing the envelope...

do we get to resurrect dead people in order to reform these bands?

if so - The Triffids and The Go-Betweens are at the top of my list. The Go-Betweens' last album, just before Grant McLennan died, is widely acknowledged to be pretty much the best thing they ever did.

and i second cocteau twins. although no idea what they'd sound like with noughties production.

If Carl actually liked him, Kate liked him, and Babyshambles were more than a soulless husk of a band, He'd be pulled apart by obligation. But no...

on another, offtopic note, what is Pete Doherty,if not the world's FATTEST HEROIN ADDICT?
