There's a Jagmaster in the shop i work in. It's really nice for the price, and for some reason it's louder than any of the other guitars in the shop.  :?

I took my Dano U-1 in today for a fret dressing and a bridge replacement.  While we were at our favorite local music store, my friend picked up an SWR 1x15 cab (like this but used and less than half the price) to put under his Eden Metro.  We then drove to his house, where he proceeded to play his bass very loudly and shake the entire neighborhood.  It was delicious.

Also there is a possibility that I may be getting one of these for free, though I'm really not yet sure whether that's true or not.

Oh man, Tech 21 is a fucking great company. I haven't had the chance to play with that particular pedal, but usually all their products are ace.

I think I mentioned their American Woman overdrive pedal.  It's pretty boss. Especially with the gate control.

The same friend who just got the 1x15 used to have a Tech 21 Trademark 120 2x12, basically their Fender Twin equivalent.  It was nice, and allowed you to get some good vintage tones, but I prefer the uniqueness of my old Traynor solid-state.  He eventually traded it in for a Tiny Terror, which is ridiculously awesome.

I would definitely not complain about getting one of those pedals for free though.

Introduce me to this friend- we have quite similar tastes in gear.

I am so gay for Trademark 120s but they're discontinued now and I doubt the one I saw months ago at a local shop is still there (I still don't have the money for it) Trademark 60s aren't as cool.

That American Woman pedal is cool but what else can you really do with it? Tech 21 is famous for their fantastic-sounding one-trick-ponies.

So, quick question.  Does anyone know anything about "Flying Guitars"?  My friend gave me this neck from an old shitty guitar he had.  The only thing it said on the headstock was, "Flying" and he and I are wondering where it's from.

Anyway, its a maple neck with a bound rosewod fretboard.  I just finished sanding the neck part down and staining it with this dark walnut color.  I'm going to add a second coat tomorrow and clear coat it, but it's looks damn fine as of now.  I'm going to be making a pseudo Thinline Telecaster/cigar box guitar out of it (I'm extending the neck via glue and more maple to make it more set).  The cigar box in question has this see through red coat that really makes the cedar shine through.  It's going to be damn beautiful when it's all finished, and hopefully it won't sound too bad either.

It looks like they specialize in Ibanez, Jackson and ESP copies.   Here's their website-

http://www.flyingguitars.com/index.htm

but they sell through ebay here-

http://stores.ebay.com/online-instruments_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZQ2d999QQftidZ2QQtZkm

Some of the guitars are assembled, but for the most part it looks like they sell parts.  Here's some reviews-

Just another thought that popped into my head regarding Jazzmasters/Jaguars; how rad would a Kevin Shields Signature model be? Red finish, brown shell pickguard, extra-long tremolo arm...that would be righteous. I mean, he's one of the first names that comes to mind when I think of the JM, it only makes sense to me.

Extra-long trem arm means you ain't gonna get to divebomb super low. And if you don't go super low when you're divebombing, the German flak might get you.

Last night at band practice I noticed the top of the volume pot on my p-bass (which I've had for a few months now) was a bit sunken compared to the tone pot... turns out it's a button. You'd think I would have known about the S1 switch before buying a bass, eh? And here I thought I'd done my homework on them. Problem is, now it's stuck in the depressed position.

Ok, well, my cigarbox guitar is almost finished!  I've attached the finished neck with a bit of maple I found in a dumpster behind this custom kitchens place glued into the box.  All it needs is a bridge, strings, and new tuning heads (they're not in the pic).  I think I might try wireing it later on then, add neck and bridge pickups, two volume knobs, and a master tone.

BTW, that white stuff near the f-hole is actually the inside, I didn't do THAT bad a job cutting it out (with an exacto knife I might add)

well, it's both glued and bolted, and it's another piece of maple that goes all the way to the back of the body.  I just ordered a bridge from my local music shop.  It's going to be kind of a hard-tail strat bridge.  I wanted to go for a type of les paul styled tail piece and bridge, but that would have been around $80.  The one I got was $25, so, I'm thinking I made the right choice.

yeah, the way I'm gonna mount the bridge I'm gonna add another layer of that maple in the back so it connects right into it.  I wonder how cedar is as a tonewood?  Guess I'll find out!

haha yeah, I did try that... it was working for a while, but then it got stuck. I'll have to borrow a small flathead screwdriver from work to take off the knob and see why it's stuck.

It's pretty common on classical and other acoustic guitars.  It's warmer and mellower than spruce is.

I want to hear that ugly fucker when its done.  What kind of pickups are you putting in?

EDIT:

I just found the perfect setting on my amp (Traynor TS-50).  I've had it for a couple months, but I hadn't spent enough time with it to figure out exactly the setup I wanted.  I finally (somewhat by luck) got it yesterday.  I was playing my friend's Chandler (custom company out of San Francisco) Telecaster clone (orange semi-hollowbody, no f-hole, three single coils) through it, and I finally got just the sound I wanted; lots of mids, a good amount of bass, less highs (both his Tele and my Dano are super twangy and bright), and just a touch of gain and reverb (one of my favorite parts of the amp: old, built-in spring reverb tank).  Clean and shimmering when lightly strummed, with just a little pop when the strings get hit harder.

I'm actually really torn between putting a acoustic pickup inside the thing, or mounting two telecaster style things on there with a two volume/one tone configuration.  If I choose the later, would any of you guys have any suggestions?

If you're not attaching the bridge directly to the sound chamber (the cigar box) there won't be much acoustic amplification going on, because the energy from the strings is transmitted through the bridge. Since there's no way that box is sturdy enough to handle string tension, I say go with the electric pickups. It should be a piece of cake to drill the proper mounting holes and wire the sucker.

Hey everyone,

I haven't gotten a chance to go try one out on a Roland Mini-Cube (the amp I intend to buy since my dinky Ibanez one is pretty crappy), but I'm wondering what the general view on a http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-B-Stock-Les-Paul-Standard-Plain-Top-103812863-i1149387.gc Ebony or possibly Refurbished Ebony?

I'm not sure how it would sound or feel or anything, my only experience with actually playing a Les Paul is trying out a Gibson Studio at a local shop, but I want to kinda replace my Ibanez with something very classic rock-y and awesome-sounding, but also within the approximate price range of $300-$400.

I mean, it looks good in the pictures, but that's not much to go on...

Thanks!

Play test as many of them as you possibly can until one feels just right.  Epiphone are very hit or miss, as far as I can tell.  There are also Les Paul clones by other brands that play just as well, which you could try out too.
