Nope, you still need to ground it. Underside of the bridge, Fender-style, is the easiest way to do this.

Another thing to reduce noise is to shield everything (pickup cavity, anywhere you put volume/tone knobs, etc). Carvin and Warmoth both sell shielding tape that makes this wicked easy. I recommend this since you're using a single-coil that is prone to 60-cycle hum anyway.

Well, I just did that, and despite the sound being a little better it's still noise as fuck...  I hope I didn't accidentally reverse the poles or something, but I'm pretty sure I didn't do that...Maybe it just needs shielding.

Welp, turns out I did have the poles reversed.  Stupid radio shack 1/4 jack having the ring and tip switched...  Anyway, It's nice and quieted now!  Even more rocking than it was.  Kind of striking that I finish my box guitar on the day Bo Diddley dies...hmm

So, what is the general opinion here on Tribute (by G & L) guitars?  I've been thinking about maybe saving up for a Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-hollow, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Tributes or that specific guitar.

As far as imports go, they're pretty good. I'd say they're better than an equivalent Fender import.

Ok, here's a video of the finished deal!  I am so in love with this thing, it's ridiculous.  It just sounds...well, listen to it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az1BCZTuoW4

I've got it running through a Peavy Backstage Plus with the Saturation all the way up and a tad bit of reverb.  It doesn't sound too bad going through a tube amp either!

Today at a music store I played an Epi Les Paul Studio through a Roland 20X and, wow, it sounded like the $1000 Gibson through the $300 Roland that I played weeks earlier.

Such a great warm, classic rock sound, especially with a bit of chorus thrown in.

Wish I could afford one, but it's nice to know that, if a dinky Studio on a fairly cheap amp sounded that great, one of the Standards must be God Damned amazing.

Hmm... When I saw that one, I was thinking it just played the same pitch/note/key/whateverthehellyoucallit no matter where you strummed, but I imagine one that played in the note you played would be more interesting. Not sure how you would do that, though, you would need a tuner in the guitar to tell what note and pitch it was at to play it.

I haven't played any of the the Tribute guitars, but the basses are definitely a good deal so I would assume their guitars are as well.

i never liked the feel or set up of the G & L strats. i much prefered the mexican fenders.

on a side note, check out the pickguard that was on my mexi fender strat(long since sold) when i got it. the guitar was a deep burgundy.

I uhm. I...can't get the Jazzmaster. The Tele was just too perfect for me. And it's $100 less than the Jazzmaster.

Didn't I show you that on AIM months ago and you were all "that's pretty punx, dude. get it!"

I'm currently going for the Tele Deluxe over the Custom cause I don't like the black or sunburst finishes and the pickguard around the single coil is funky.

What are you getting, the white Deluxe that MF had for a while?

Also, I was planning on getting one of those old-ass bridge covers. I love how the single-coil sounds, but agree that it's a a little weird looking with the pickguard.

(Gene I do not believe we've ever talked on AIM)

The store I went to had one of those Thinlines as well. It sounded ace, but I kinda like the seperate volume/tone controls of the Deluxe and the Custom better.

edit: Uh, right. Sometimes you make me wonder, Fender. Though not as much as Gibson.

This Tele love is happening with me too, but for the aforementioned Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy semi-hollow.  It's basically a thinline version of the '72 custom, and they have it in a gorgeous clear orange finish.

Guys, my dad called me at work a couple days ago and told me some of the saddest news I've heard in years: Bo Diddley has passed away. Even if I only met him for 30 minutes, it feels like I've lost a good friend.

I am more determined than ever to bring that guitar of mine to playing condition before the end of the summer.

When I think of B.C. Rich Warlocks, I'm tempted to think of things like this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ESAebindkl4

In other words, they're guitars that faux-metal heads or pre-teens get when they decide that they want to learn how to play guitar, just based on the fact that they look "brutal". They aren't anything beyond that.

At least in my opinion.

Guys, I played a Tiny Terror this weekend. Short version: 5150 combo crapped out the practice the night before the show. I swapped it for my Twin Reverb. Twin reverb started farting during the In-Store (early show). Borrowed the other band's guitar rig for the club gig. Guy has an 1966 Marshall 8x10 powered by that little bastard. Holy shit. I chose the 15w mode as I have a lot of clean sounds in my songs. And I use a pod pedal board. But i think it was the truest representation of my sound evarrr. Plus it weighs considerable less than a @#$%!#$^ Peavey 5150 combo. I guess that cab was pretty sweet. I wouldn't want to have to move that much. But shit I'd play one through a 4x10 or 2x12 in a sec. (oh it was a telling tale of rock and roll roadtrip from HECK, I'll prolly write it up later today).

On a related note, I love me my Pod. Those things kick much ass.

Orange-
Pod.-
After lugging Maria's 4x10 and 1x15 cabs + Ampeg head around, I am much in love with the tiny-ness of the tiny terror. Really, 15w pushed the heck out of the 8x10. But...
&
I'm playing the PODX3Live. Once I figured out the output settings I have no problems. I'm playing through a solid state Pinceton Chorus as the tube amps are giving me headaches. Only thing I had to change was turning up the master vol on the P0D. That little bastard never sounded so loud.

I still use Ernie Ball Rock n' Roll strings. They're made with a different, less magnetic winding on the higher-gauge strings, which is great since those massive-output humbuckers really like to scream out the lower notes a lot more than the higher ones. Makes for a much more even volume balance between the strings. And Ernie Balls have been the most reliable strings I've ever used in my whole time playing.

I would like for you guys to know that I played a bunch of Gibson acoustics when I was down in California (Santa Cruz day trip with my dad yielded interesting results in my musical world), and I have decided that they are not as nice-sounding as Taylors and way less resilient. I met a dude recently (an elementary school P.E. teacher, he's a complete badass when he's not playing nice for little kids) who has a Taylor that he bought 12 years ago and has gigged with nearly nonstop. It has the back of the fucker halfway fallen off, and it still sounds fantastic and plays really well.
