I heard their single "We are your friends" because a friend was all "omgomg this band" a while back, and I caught part of their set at coachella because I ditched Girl Talk due to it being hella mad lame. They are so fucking good. Someone should upload the record.

I was kinda confused to hear that annoying song with the kids' choir playing at my gym the day before last, but then it was followed up by one of those electronic cowboy numbers off Dntel's latest album.  I like living in Japan sometimes. :)

On first listen I heard moments I liked, but no track I wanted to listen to again.  Maybe in the wrong mood.

Do those who like this also know e.g. Daft Punk's Discovery (duh), Jackson And His Computer Band's Smash, Basement Jaxx's last few albums?  As far as far-too-compressed dance music packed with ideas and changes goes I'd recommend all of them ahead of this.

I'm starting to prefer this to Daft Punk. Not that I know much about house music so that's pretty much the only point of reference I'm working with here.

By the way, the most Daft Punk-jacking-ish track Newjack is based around a sample from You Make Me Wanna Wiggle by The Brothers Johnson.  The original is an awesome Quincy Jones-produced number, think it's actually a Rod Temperton tune - the guy who wrote Rock With You for Michael Jackson and Gimme The Night for George Benson.  Totally recommended if you like good music that kind of thing.

It has purdy melodies, so it's better than most other artists of similar ilk. Nice lighthearted music, but I am too reserved to do a yeah so it gets a INDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!

I have a DVD containing an interview with Ed Banger and he starts it off by walking around with a portable vinyl record player, dancing like a beatnik.  What a snazzy dude.  There are other interviews, but they all seem  to be extremely pretentious scarf wearing elitists talking about how wine is the meaning of life, and also the afrementioned  Uffie, where she's buying new sneakers and explaining the meaning behind her song Fuck Me.  A boring watch.

This album is so solid.  It touches me in so many places I want to point it out on a doll.  "The Party" "D.A.N.C.E." is one of the tracks of the year.  Oh but am I alone in thinking that Uffie cannot sing for shit?

Guys and girls.

What can I say, some of friends are really into this music thing.

OK, I finally got around to listening to this and well, okay.  I really don't see what the big deal is?  I mean, there are moments I like, but they're the moments it has in common with Futureworld (or, for that matter, Computer World) so I see no reason to rate it any higher than a 6/10 or so.

I guess I could see being more into it if I hadn't been saturated with these kinds of sounds for the past decade+.

I got really into Justice around the same time that DFA1979 broke up and Keeler started MSTRKRFT. I don't know if it was just my undying love for Keeler's music, or my history of liking electronic music (I'm already really into drum and bass) but my musical taste buds were just looking for that sorta hipster house that MSTRKRFT and JUSTICE started doing. Another solid house act on a level with Justice and MSTRKRFT is Ocelot. Also check out the MSTRKRFT remix of D.A.N.C.E.

The Pitchfork review says "If it's too loud, you're too old."

Well, I'm pretty old but I'd say it's not loud enough.  It flirts with rocking out but never takes its top off.  It's a cocktease album.

Any chance you could recommend a couple of rocking-er albums in the same vein sir? I really like this kind of sound but I really only know Daft Punk, Vitalic, this CD and stuff like ASCII Discko. Wouldn't mind trying a few others acts out.

Well, I'm not really all that into dance music, but a very obvious recommendation would be the first two Chemical Brothers albums, I'd think?  Also the first Lo-Fidelity All-Stars album.  Also Death In Vegas, all their stuff is good and Scorpio Rising is pretty damn rocking.  I never liked Daft Punk, at least not while I wasn't on Ecstasy.

I mentioned Futureworld by Trans Am, which is really just a rock album, but it does for me what I think this Justice album is doing for the rest of you.  It's got dance-beat sensibility while also completely rocking the eff out.  Listen to "Television Eyes" for the best example of that.

If you can, try and track down the version of Death In Vegas' Satan's Circus that comes with a live CD.  The album proper is their most mellow (it's much more Kraftwerk than big-beat or psychedelic rock) but the live CD has better versions of most of Scorpio Rising and is worth it for that alone.

Similarly quirky electronica (though not strictly house) are:

Brazilian Girls (I like the first album best, others differ but start with Pussy for a rapid introduction to their idiom)
Infected Mushroom
UNKLE
Moloko
Herbert (Scale is very very hot)
Mr. Scruff
Peaches (Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me calling me . . . . )

I wouldn't really compare Peaches to the others; while I like her first album more than this Justice one and all that, it's really minimal and not for everyone.

But if you like Peaches, there are other electroclash grrrls that I think are overall better.  Chicks on Speed, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Miss Kittin, for starters.

The most blatantly rock stuff I've heard recently that is still part of some dance scene (outside drum'n'bass - try Pendulum for basically super-huge electronic hair metal!) is Blackstrobe.  Super dark synth-based house (sorry, "electro") with rock guitar and a kinda tuneless guy singing.  It's a bit like Suicide for clubs, maybe?  Seems ridiculously European to me though.

I don't think Peaches fits into that sorta power-house / hipster house category, she is more of a 'LAite' musician. I'd say similar to Jeffree Starr, but Starr isn't just an 'LAite' musician, Starr is a 'shite' musician.

Ahh, the reason 'Lost in Translation' was rated R. Good stuff. Seriously though that song cracks me up. Other than that I find Peaches more irritating than anything else.

I listened to a couple of UNKLE's albums after hearing an impressive, cut down version of "lonely souls". It didn't exactly meet my expectations, to say the least. In a related music victory though, I also got DJ Shadow's 'Endtroducing' and must say that it is quite excellent.

I know you can line me up for some hipster-accusations and whatever, but UNKLE genuinely were better before they even released an album.  Back then it was James Lavelle (the only consistent member) plus Tim Goldsworthy (now the other half of DFA) often joined my members of the Major Force Orchestra (primarily Tosh & Kudo).  They released a couple of incredible singles and did some ... well, at least, reasonable remixes around the place.

By all accounts the first album was a shambollic process, which seems to have involved A&R man Lavelle broking deals with other labels ("if you let me do a track with this famous singer, I'll also do one with this nobody") and dragging in DJ Shadow to patch things up when it all fell apart.  I basically stopped listening after that first album came out, but then I wasn't a big fan of what Shadow had started doing by that point either.  The other members of the original line up have proven to be far more interesting, IMO.

I have heard a few of the songs that came out before the UNKLE debut and they are pretty decent. Endtroducing, though, is class. It's unfortunate that Shadow hasn't been able to live up to that since its release.

If you're talking about rocking electronic music, I'm surprised no ones mentioning industrial rock, apart from the fact that it is apparently majorly uncool. Hanzel Und Gretyl or Angelspit would rock most of the bands mentioned here straight into their graves. Or is industrial rock too rock? I know it is in some major cases, but in others, definitely not. imo. Especially those ones I mentioned. Pick up Hanzel und Gretyls 'Uber Alles' (A semi-concept album about nazis in space featuring numbers like 'SS Deathstar Supergalactick' and 'Third Reich From the Sun'.) or Angelspits album 'Krankhaus' or perhaps the 'Nurse Grenade' EP. Or what about this new stuff like The Klaxons? I actually quite like The Klaxons, I'm rather surprised never to have heard anything about them on this board. Are they unknown internationally? They're literally one of the only popular bands in the UK I can stand. I suppose they're more like a rock band incorporating electronic elements, but they're still pretty good.
