Most played song (NOT A LIST THREAD!!)
« on: 27 Jun 2007, 07:20 »

Excuse the double exclamation mark, but I thought I was warranted in this instance. Go on, check what song you have played the most on your favorite music program and PLEASE include a reason why.
For me it is "Too Late" by The Servant. Not only is it a perminent fixture of my sleep playlist but it is also fun trying to figure out what the hell these guys were thinking about when they wrote this song. My current theory is that it is a reworking of apocolapse legends, where eventually even Death himself becomes seperated from the everyday grind of havesting souls and succumbs to the majority vote.
There are alot more dead people out there than living ones.
But seriously, I should like to hear what you most played song is, and why you play it so frigging much. Awesome guitar riffs? Crazy lyrics? Or the fact that it's pure amp-iness helps you to get dressed in the morning?

Survivor - Eye of the Tiger. I basically declared "Eye of the Tiger" day a month or two back and blasted that on repeat for an entire day while lifting things above my head.

Interpol's "The Specialist" and Xiu Xiu's "Fast Car" are tied.  They're two of the only songs that are on my computer and not on any physical CD I own and that I like enough to actually bother playing.  I really only listen to physical CDs.

Midnight Bicycle Mystery by Deerhoof.

Because it's less than two minutes long, so you can listen to it a lot without realizing it.

Because it's fucking awesome, and the first Deerhoof song I heard that made me fall in love with the band.

Because they didn't play it live when I saw them in January, and I know they never will, because it would blow everyone's head up if they did.

I just reformatted my machine, though, so a play count of seven wins out.

Ulver - Hymn III Of Wolf and Hatred has the highest playcount. But the song that I probably play most often now is Too Close Enough to Touch by Khanate, because I play it before I go to sleep. I can't fall asleep to it, but I always fall asleep as soon as the song is over, with a massive sense of relief.

"Turn it On" by Sleater-Kinney.

I don't usually listen to songs on my computer, so the play count is only 5. (That and I got a new harddrive recently) I had downloaded the song and listened to it a lot? That's pretty much by.

I don't really know why it's at the top (with 116 plays), as I listen to my music usually on my iPod.  i'm not complaining though, it is an amazing song.

The "not a list thread" thing is falling by the wayside people.

My most played song, I think, is Just Kissed My Baby by The Meters.  I just love every moment of it.  My initial exposure to The Meters was as an instrumental band, a little like Booker T & The MGs or something, but then I stumbled upon this track on a compilation and fell in love.  There's so much space in the beats, it's definitely my kind of funk.  I also like the fact the bass is definitely the backbone, it's not like the JBs or someone where the drums are always rocking along.

Holland 1945 by Neutral Milk Hotel.
For several reasons:
1) It's on my favorite and most-played album of all time by far
2) It's a good song to motivate me in the mornings
3) I like to strum along with it on the guitar
4) It makes a nice addition to a playlist
5) I just listened to it now because it was tied with Caring is Creepy by The Shins, which is not as good a song.

You know what's a great song? "Communion Cups & Someone's Coat" by Iron & Wine.  It's one of the most fun sounding acoustic folk songs ever.  It's just so happy sounding, and it's like, "Well, if you take the chance, you could be happy."  This makes me happy, because I am happy, and because I took the chance and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made yet.

It's a tie between "This Glorious Nightmare" by Unearth and "Romance is Dead" by Parkway Drive.

"This Glorious Nightmare" because it is the first and my favourite track on my favourite album of 2006, and "Romance is Dead" because it's a song I listen to when I'm angry, depressed, or I need to get psyched up for something. I also play along to both tracks on the drums fairly regularly.

amarok says my most played track is Helium by Skyclad. I have played it 3 times since I formatted my hard drive the other day.
It is my 'most played' because I love the chorus, and is one of the few Skyclad songs that I don't feel like I've overplayed too much in the past.
last.fm says my most played track is Big Dipper by Built to Spill, with 31 plays, because, I was pretty obsessed with the entire record over last summer. I've not actually listened to it in a while, I guess I should, and see if it's as good as I remember.

Incidentally, I'm pretty pleased that while Skyclad are by far my most played artist overall (593 plays to Built to Spill's 266) the most played Skyclad track on last.fm is only my 27th most played track overall.

Most played song on my MP3: Blackened by Metallica. It is one of my favourite songs (I could never pick one song). Killer solos and Hetfield vocals. Classic metal.

According to Last Fm it's The Cross by Samael

reasons:
- I like the song, nice keyboards drums are programmed nicely and when that guitar riff hits it's jaw droppingly awesome
- Vorph's voice on this track, I have no idea what effect he used to get it to sound the way it does but it's awesome
- The Lyrics, really great lyrics it's a much more intellectual attack on Christianity then most black Metal bands are capable of delivering. I particularly like the ending bridge/verse

North south east and west the cross is sent over the lands
keep draining what was and will be in our time in our life
pilot soul takes you on the ride, no rise no fall for Humankind

Helvetia gloria still smile behind the shade of shame
cross your faith, join your hands tomorrow holds another day
Eldest to the one and I
harvest of love and light
dictated by war and hate
supported by those who hide
it lives in your mind
whatever you may say
whoever you may pray
Christianity worldwide

Helvetia is another name for Switzerland (Samael being a Swiss band...), Switzerland rejected a resolution recognizing the separation of church and state, which is whats being alluded to in this verse...

Well check it out for yourself if you like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2S3bIoyeCk (live version no vocal effects :( )

Metallica's Blackened is definately up there with my favorite songs, but for some reason I don't play it too often. I mean, Metallica is the reason why I started playing guitar, but I don't listen to them a hell of a lot anymore... does anyone else find that they just don't play their favorites as much as they think they should? All my favorite bands are pretty much resigned to one off, full album plays in amoungst everything else I listen to when I REALLY feel like a 7min solo of greatness... much of my time is spent just trawling and trying other music.
On the other hand, I also have some songs that I just don't like with bout 400 playcounts. "Stability" by Death Cab for Cutie is one because its 15min of a pretty damn repetitave drum beat.  I've only been able to listen throgh it twice without sleeping.
Don't get me wrong, I do like quite a bit of death cab, but "Stability" just fills a need inside me. The need for boredom.

Final Fantasy - This is the Dream of Win and Regine (172 plays)

This was my favourite song at roughly this time last year, which is roughly when I got this computer. At the time, I was literally at the top of every single thing in my life and it was awesome. There's a soaring violin line throughout the song that kind of fit my buoyant spirits at the time, and a little almost-electro bassline that made it a really energizing song at any time I threw it on.

After the fact and throughout this year, I'd put it on when I was angry, or stressed, to try and recapture that joyful, together-sort-of feeling I had when I first heard it. It's still very pretty instrumentally too.

In terms of most solid plays, it's probably have to be a three-way-tie between "Life on Mars" from Bowie, "Fred Jones, Part 2" from Ben Folds, and "Danger! HighVoltage" from the Electric 6.

The former two for the reasons of yelping along and sentimentality respectively, and the lattermost because sometimes you just need to have a mad boogie session.

iTunes: Blu Sanders- "By His Side"

I saw him live a few months ago and he put on such an amazing show. You can hear emotion in his voice when he sings, even on recordings. This song was especially good live, though, and can both energize me or calm me down. I listen to it multiple times per day, I would estimate.

Last.fm: The Spill Canvas- "The Night Will Go As Follows"

The night after I first heard this song I dreamt that someone sang it to me, and I guess I've been holding out hope that that would come true someday. I think I would just about melt if anyone did that for me. Every time I listen to it I just get really happy and content.

I just switched from Media Player to Winamp, but the most commonly played song on both is Uriah Heep- The Magician's Birthday.  I don't know why, but for some reason this song pops up an awful lot on the random list thing.

The song that I play intentionally the most would probably be the jazz chorus version of The Well Tempered Clavier.  The swing to the notes combined with the general coolness factor of jazz chorus makes this a winner in my books.

Belle and Sebastian - Wrapped Up In Books. This is the song that made me fall in love with B&S! I listened to it on repeat on my iPod a lot during those days.

On my old computer it was probably some Elliott Smith song like Bled White. The highest played ES song on this new one is Brand New Game (an unreleased demo from the Figure 8 sessions that is very good).

Wish List by Jets To Brazil; I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!!!!!!!! I used to listen to every time i felt the blues rest heavily on my shoulders

Umm, since my stats aren't working on my chosen media player, I am going to -guess- Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's...  I've been in love with the song for awhile, since I heard it on a mini-road trip, and my friend had it on her Ipod. It's just a really good song, with a beat that I like, and words that are simple to sing along to.

I know what you mean.  Metallica was the first band I really liked, and now I can't stand them.  For who they've become as much as how their musical direction utterly deteriorated.

I think "Under the Bridge" by Red Hot Chili Peppers is probably my most played song, in the sense it's the one I listen to if I feel the need to sing along with something when I'm feeling down.  Other than the part where the narrator of the song slits his wrists at the end of the song, it's very fitting for me, too.  I feel like Las Vegas is my only friend, sometimes.

Am I the only one who thinks that Load and Reload were actually quite good? Sure, it's not up there with AJFA and the like, but Bleeding Me, Struggle Within, Of Wolf and Man, Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer.. Metallica have done some pretty good songs post-AJFA imo.

Radiohead - Paranoid Android.. It's so damn perfect, from beginning to end that song resonates with my brain on so many levels, and it doesn't just sit there in typical shoegazing fashion it rocks out as well, one of the best bloody songs ever.. oh and it's not just because I suffer from acute paranoia.. or that due to some strange genetic defect I'm half toaster

I don't listen to enough Led Zep, my favourite band, mainly because I am fussy about when I am listening to them. I don't listen to them when its noisy or if Im in a bad mood etc. etc.

Two songs are tied at the top (at like 700 a piece) on my itunes. Slow Hands - Interpol and Upper Peninsula - Sufjan Stevens. They actually accurately reflect the polarity of my moods, the Sufjan song being both slow and amazingly depressing, and Slow Hands being quite a bit faster paced, causing me to listen to it when I'm in a better mood and feel like some energy.

Maybe it is just because I have had this computer for a little less than a year, but I still find it crazy that people can listen to one song over seven hundred times. Unless you were exaggerating?

No. :(

I sort of keep itunes on constantly, as background, since it's in my living room and streaming through my house. I also share the computer with my girlfriend. But it does have 700 plays.

I think once or twice I fell asleep to it, too, probably.

Urgh. Every time we touch by Cascada. I can listen to the song anywhere and on repeat without wanting to kill myself.
