What's your happy song?
« on: 11 Aug 2007, 20:10 »

Alright, so this is my first time starting a thread.

I was just wondering what everyone's happy song is. It doesn't have to be a song about happy things. Sometimes sad songs make me happy. I've already discovered some new music just reading through these threads. Hopefully I get some new happy songs from you guys.

So, what song(s) make you happy? Old standbys. New favorites? I'll start.

Old standby: The Beatles - Good day Sunshine
I would have to be dead for that song not to cheer me up.

New favorite: Coconut Records - West Coast.
I love Coconut Records right now. The piano on West Coast makes me smile.

You?

Decemberists- The Crane Wife pt. 1.

Not just my happy song, but pretty much my everything song.

Also at the moment Daft Punk- Harder Better Faster. I literally can not sit still when that song is on. I've nearly crashed the car from getting too funk-ay while driving.

Indeed. I have, as well. But I was listening to Rock Lobster. Man, that song is obnoxious.

Also, anything by Mates of State. So much happy.

Hooray! Hoioray! Hooray by Dio Make Say Think is easily one of the happiest songs I've ever heard. Not only that, it's really good. Less jazzy and more electronica-y than most DMST, this song could make you smile at your parents' funeral. No joke.

'Down South Ten Hours' by All Girl Summer Fun Band. I believe that this song is actually pure happiness condensed down to its most potent form, and then parceled out in three-minute chunks for general consumption.

Also, Islands - Rough Gem.  If Islands can't make you smile, I'm pretty sure you are dead.

Fireworks - Animal Collective

Avril 14th - Aphex Twin

Strange Lights - Deerhunter

Confusion - Elliott Smith

Good Vibrations - Beach Boys

I Want to Be Cold - The Microphones

These songs all give me "happy shivers". It's probably the feeling of all the happy emotions I keep bottled up that make me want to jump around and punch sad people in their stupid crying faces, for they should know that I'm listening to some of the happiest songs and sobbing's not allowed.

And also the title track from Belle and Sebastian's "The Boy with the Arab Strap" will always make me smile. Actually, most of Belle and Sebastian's songs work for that, really.

This thread might be dying so, before it does, thanks for all the new happy songs. I even ended up making a new "Happy Song" mix with some additions from this thread. Also, I'm not sure why I didn't mention it before, but Generation by Johnny Boy is ridiculously happy. I finished off the mix with it. Construction and traffic were angering me today when Generation came on and all the cars just seemed to part before me.

Thanks again!
