I really like End Hits, but. . .
« on: 16 Sep 2007, 21:08 »

So anyway, there was a time a few months ago when I just didn't get the album.  I just listened to it tonight for the first time in about forever, and I really like it.  It has sort of a sixties feel to it.  However, Arpeggiator is pretty much a retarded-ass song.  I mean, jeez.  Are they trying to make fun of music by being all, "Guess what, music is just scales.  We just decided to actually play a scale as one would practice it for guitar lessons."  Ghei, Fugazi, totally effing ghei.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

The only Fugazi release I really own is In On The Kill-Taker.

I do like it.

In On The Kill-Taker is my favourite Fugazi album.  The others are really awesome as well though!  But I actually haven't heard End Hits.

End Hits is my least favourite Fugazi album, for some reason. I like a bunch of the songs on it, but it never really grabs me the same way the others (except maybe Steady Diet) do. The second half of the album just kinda, eh... sounds filler-ey (I like Arpeggiator and Foreman's Dog, though).

Those are very good lyrics, but you do have to admit, of all the members of Fugazi, Guy looks like he's trying to be the most good-looking, and in a fairly traditional way, too.  Wearing form fitting clothes, button-down shirts.  Most of the time Ian and Brendan dress like complete slobs, but Guy and sometimes Joe dress up for occasions.

Guy doesn't have to try to be good looking.

I don't think Guy dresses up at all. I just see him wearing casual dress, usually band tees or something with jeans and converse.
...
Oh wow, yeah. But who cares, the guy is a demon on the stage. Can't wait to see his next project, I may finally get to see him live.

BRITS! What do you think? UK 'Go see Guy' meet up?

I think each fugazi album got better than the one before it, up to the Argument, which felt like a step backwards. End Hits is where it's at.

Oh man, I think The Argument is one of their best, if not their best.  It's certainly my favorite.  With the exception of Oh, all the songs on there are pure gold.

I love both those songs.
Any guesses as to what Guy's new project will sound like? I heard he's hired a horn section, it might sound like fugazi meets ska.

Red Medicine is better than your favorite Fugazi album.

Red Medicine was my favorite album for quite awhile, but I listened to it too much and got somewhat burnt out on it, unfortunately.

Getting burnt out on Fugazi isn't really an idea I feel I can relate to.

Fugazi and Low are all I listen to going to work. My favourite 3 albums by them are the last three they did, Red Medicine being my clear favourite and the other two depending on ho I am feeling.  End Hits is brilliant but maybe a bit meandering towards the middle, while The Argument is consistently great, but doesn't have quite as many highlights as End Hits and Full Disclosure is a bit annoying, The Argument also has my favourite Fugazi lyric in Argument

Quote
when they start falling executions will commence
sides will not matter now matter makes no sense
how did a difference become a disease?
i'm sure you have reasons a rational defense
weapons and motives bloody fingerprints
but i can't help thinking it's still all disease
here comes the argument
folderol it's all about strikes now
so here's what's striking me
that some punk could argue some moral abc's
when people are catching what bombers release
i'm on a mission to never agree
here comes the argument

This sums up Fugazi for me, and the last five lines I hold especially dear

So yesterday I listened to End Hits and The Argument for the first time in a while.

It was an incredibly good idea.
