Gigs you've been to and your thoughts.
TheFuriousWombat:
I saw "Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-la-la Band" last night in the basement of the First Unitarian Church in Philly. It was a pretty spectacular show. Beautiful, epic, intense music in a cramped, stuffy room jammed with people. It's amazing how well seven musicians play together, cueing each other with winks, nods and silent counts yet each one seemed wholly absorbed in the music. On the records on occasion Efrim's voice is pretty weak, sure, but live with the cacophony of the instruments, the edge is taken and it becomes a lot more palatable. I was surprised to learn from Efrim that it was the band's 166th show ever. I know they rarely tour but I didn't know it was that few, considering how long they've been around. Anyway, what have been people's experiences thus far?
Set list for 5/22, First Unitarian Church, Philadelphia
1. 13 Blues for 13 Moons
2. Could've Moved Mountains
3. Mountains Made of Steam
4. One Million Died to Make this Sound
5. (New Song!!) There is a Light
ENCORE
Microphones in the Trees

Anyway gig thread, I'm seeing A Silver Mt. Zion next week. Expect copious amounts of gushing then!

Me too! It should be an excellent show.

Dude, you are a big indian guy, right? I will try to say hi to you! I have a dumb green hat and a pelican shirt on!
Edit: They played Mountains Made of Stream? Really? I heard they were not playing Horses in the Sky stuff. Interesting.
Edit part 2:
--- Quote from: a pack of wolves on 20 May 2008, 06:34 --- I actually have an aversion to incredibly loud music (I've never seen Earth or live dubstep for this reason, and I've had to walk out on Wolf Eyes twice)

I saw Earth play with Pelican and Priestbird last summer and I can't say I remember Earth being too terribly loud. I may be insensitive to loudness though, since my hearing isn't exactly top notch (nor is it terribly bad, thank you).

They did indeed. I was really surprised. Efrim has a habit of announcing each song before they play and, even though I was up against the stage and only a few feet from him, I still thought I had misheard him. It was probably one of the best songs of the night.

I hope they play it tonight too then! That is one of my favorite tracks by them.
Also I am gonna be sad if there is no Blindblindblind.
I'll shut up now.

I, too, have personal reasons not to like Stubb's. I doubt they're the same ones however.
