Always properly tag your music

Tom:
Not as crazy as me!

It was bucketing and I was all like "duh, i'm gonna change the genre of every beck song i have" so i opened up wikipedia and 5 hours later I'd classified every song of his that I have.

2 hours later i opened iTunes and the genres had switched back.

Why bother properly tagging the genres? I don't get it. Do you ever sit down and think "oh, today I shall listen to some Dream-pop Shoegaze/Post-hardcore. I wonder what artists that will involve?"? I just hide the "Genre" column in my media library so that I don't have to be irritated with the inconsistencies therein.

The same with last.fm tags. The amount of retards you see squabbling over an incorrectly placed "post-" prefix in a bands "most tagged" (or whatever) section is stunning. Why not just STOP TAGGING GENRES.

Yes, actually. I'm in the mood for certain types of music on certain days and a poorly organized Genres column means I have to scroll to each band and/or make an on-the-go playlist. Pain in the ass.

Also, Wikipedia is a shitty place to look for genres. They're often inaccurate, and most of the time all it says is "alternative" or "rock."

Never!!!

IronOxide:
Genres are the only thing I don't tag. I don't really see the point.
