With shellshock.

Tania -- I really like the longer/shaggier look much better. It's so much cuter!

I need a haircut and I can't afford one, this makes me sad. :(

I can ask Ingelise if she'll give you a free or cheap as free hair cut if you want? Her salon is all swanky!

thanks for the input, hair thread! i think i will continue to stick with super short for a while. maybe in the future i'll try growing it out again and trying something fun and shaggy but right now having no hair is just so much easier to take care of.
the fringe does look pretty stupid in that first picture but that's mainly cos i took it very shortly after coming back from the hair place and it was all styled and had all that product they always put in, plus that bizarre "i've just gotten my hair cut" look that always goes away after you shower. it's actually quite nice and textured... just super short.

Honestly, if I were going to have my hair like that (which I wouldn't, it's taken a few years to get to a length I am happy with), I would make it look like Travis Bickle's mohawk. So yeah, slim it and trim the front. Sunglasses and OD field jacket optional.

The straight un-spiked mohawk like in Taxi Driver won't really stay like that for very long in my experience.  It works at first because your hair is still trained to go straight forward and back but it will soon start to go astray and just flatten over the top of your head in an uninspiring clump.

tania it is so good short! and james is crazy!

today a friend told me she'd overheard someone say "ally has such nice hair. I don't think she knows that though because she doesn't take care of it at all."

after I got over the initial shock (people talk about me?), I realized that I really, really need a haircut. I look at my split ends during class.

soo... help? I am growing my bangs out because I always end up hating them but maybe I shouldn't bother? should I stay long or go short or what? my hair is so gross I need advice!

I like this cut but I'm not sure if I'm ready to go short again. plus that involves like, a lot of daily styling.

Ally I don't think you need a dramatic restyle as much as you do a little shaping around your face, a trim, and some awesome product that makes your hair all silky and plays up the natural wave.

i mean i am not trying to loose all my hair i am just trying to see jens with his jenshawk up. you can though if you want. though if i did a mohawk its length would be more epic than a godspeed track.

and ally because i say this to every girl who expresses interest in going short - do eeeeeeeeeeet. (though your hair is rather nice as is and it would be okay if you just cleaned it up a bit)

If you are that rushed, just buy a really good shampoo and conditioner (they are expensive but usually they last a really long time because you don't need to use that much) and a nice, slightly rounded, smoothing hairbrush with soft bristles.

Yeah actually I never wash my hair. It's good!

At this point it's important to distinguish between "washing" and "shampooing". I haven't shampooed my hair in about five or six years (admittedly my hair these days is very short, but still it's incredibly strong and healthy). However I wash it every day - but I only use water. You just massage the water in thoroughly like you would with shampoo.

Seriously everyone should give this a go for at least a month or two. Shampoo is really only a solution to its own problem: it washes out the natural oils and stuff that your hair produces to take care of itself. The fact that it replaces those oils with its own stuff means that in the short-term your hair looks great - but then by the next day it looks like crap again, because the shampoo's left the building and it's taken all the nice stuff with it. So you put more shampoo in your hair to fluff it up again. Which fixes your hair up again for a few hours. But then the next day . . . And so the cycles continues.

Hey guys, hair advice time:

I have the option of doing it like this (no front pic, but it just sorta goes to a point and sits there):

Here is what I have done the past two days:

There is no gel in my hair, I don't put product in it, but it stays that way all night if I want it to. I was complimented on it at work once. But I don't see that many people.

EDIT: damn you photobucket. Sorta large pictures, so, they are thumbnails linking to the big picture.

RE: not washing your hair

This works for some people. Some people it does not. It works for me, however, if I go swimming just once it returns to step one. It's easier to just shamp/cond it every three or so days. Also.

Guys, if you have really, really long thick hair. There is no way for it not to get matted and tangled, trying to get those out after a few days without conditioner? Might as well just accept in a week I'll have dreads.

(Hair actually does dread naturally if you leave it long enough! Neat!)

Ally, I remember seeing a picture of you with short hair and sunglasses I think? I thought it was great.

I tried not shampooing before and it looked like an unmitigated train wreck. My hair is rather fine and straight so the sebum spreads rather nicely, so it looks great up until day three or so. After day 4 it looks rather disconcertingly greasy and by the end of the week I think my hair must be trapping and displaying other people's dandruff as well as my own detritus because shit gets pretty real pretty fast. Mind you, I was still showering and washing regularly, just sans shampoo. Also, it itched like a motherfucker.

I could never skip the shampoo. I had to once, because we were up at our cabin (without electricity or water), and ended up staying for like 9 days, so I had to wash my hair in pure water being poured from a saucepan. My hair felt worse after each wash, and like Alex says, it itched horribly.

I've been considering trying baking powder and apple cider vinegar instead of shampoo, though. I've had it recommended from about 3 or 4 people, and they all have spectacular hair. Might be a conincidence, of course, and I can't help but find it kinda weird, but I figure it may be worth a shot.

I used to have to wash my hair every day because it would get really greasy and gross.  Then one week, I got really lazy and didn't touch it.  The next time I washed it, I didn't have to do it again until 3 days later.  Now, I don't wash it but every three or four days.  It certainly saves a lot on shampoo, and my hair is in better condition than it ever used to be.  That's even with the fact that I bleach it every few weeks.

Wardial3r, the thing with curly red hair is that if it is at the length you were at before, you will always remind people of carrot top. I'm sure you never ever heard that before ever though.

But even without that the shorter looks way better on you. Also I like your clothes a lot
