I'm legitimately considering ditching my trademark messy fringe thing that I've had for roughly a decade now. Most of y'all have met me by now, you know my hair is kind of shitty however I wear it. The problem is that I feel like people will find it difficult to accept me with such a decidedly different appearance because it will contradict their mental image. Right now I feel like it might be time to accept how high my hair line is and just go for a short, maybe kind of spiky on top cut. That way I could also wear my glasses more, which I like doing.

Any sensible opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.

if you don't want longish hair anymore then the best alternative for a receding hairline is very short hair that hugs your head with a just slightly longer fringe in the front. some places call it a caesar. it is probably most well known as being the haircut worn by none other than george clooney, aka the sexiest man alive. yes, george clooney has a receding hairline. and yet look at how good looking he is! who the fuck even cares about receding hairlines anymore! i would bang this guy like a million times.

i really don't recommend going longer and/or spiky with a receding hairline unless you want to look like sting.

are you serious? it's just a fucking haircut, dude.

I seem to recall you having shortish spiky hair at one point and it not looking too poorly, but you can also consult this with your hairdresser of trust. They generally do have some knowledge about this and would be able to tell you what may or may not suit you.

I think that is a perfect post to follow by asking for a rundown on types of hair product. I want to get some new stuff  that doesn't have as much of a tendency to make my hair a natural hard hat when I put in more than the tiniest bit. I also don't like how the gel I've got right now makes my hair feel. What else is there, what is it good for?

This year I was recommended this incredible stuff which is a really fine powder, almost like talc. You drop a little bit in your hair and it sets like hair spray or wax but doesn't make your hair look dirty. I doubt I'll ever use anything else ever again, though it's not strong enough for the kind of haircuts where you need industrial adhesive style gel. If you just want a bit of crumple though, it's the best thing.

Oh man yeah, since I started using that two years ago I've never even bothered trying out other stuff, it's just so perfect. Whenever I want a little bit more hold I use a small amount of spray over that again, and that's all I'll ever need. Also, if you have fine/thin hair (like me) it makes your hair look a lot thicker, I've never had issues with my hair looking flat and lifeless after I started using that powder.

that sounds absolutely genius. whenever i mess my hair up i use fibre putty, because it holds and moulds like wax but doesn't leave your hair feeling greasy, which is a mega plus.

I tie my hair back into a ponytail. Alternatively I leave it loose and look like a wild man. I'm ok with both of these because I don't have to use any product!

I heard about fiber putty, but I thought it was going to be really expensive. I saw some at the grocery store for something like $4 bucks, is that about right, too cheap, or too expensive? Looked like a few ounces of it, in sort of a cup.

I'm either going to be getting this hairstyle again

or this one

(yes that is Josh Homme shut up)

so I think I will need something with really good hold if I go for the second, not so much the first.

What I like about the first one is that it tends to look better later on in the day.

I just really like slicked-back hair, and think that particular example is awesome.

I want to take Josh Homme and Brody Dalle home with me and make sweet love. Both of them.

The guy in the first picture doesn't have a hairstyle. He is in dire need of one, though.

I've seen attractive people with that hair look good, but always in spite of the hair and not thanks to it. Anyone can do better.

I found that it has the rare distinction of making me
A) not scare small children,
B) not look like a giant nerd
C) not look like I belong on the disney channel.

It was hard finding something that fit all of those criteria (and it passed with flying colors because depending on what I did with it, I could go back into scaring small children land).

Hey, new on this thread but I do need some Hair Advice. This is open to anyone haha. I haven't cut my hair in about 2 months and now it's kind of getting longer (I usually wear it about half the length I have now, slightly shorter on the sides and spiky messy at the top).

So now that my hair is a little bit longer I feel like either a) doing something new with it because it's kind of crazy, or b) growing it out further to see what happens.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Fiber putty is pretty great! And yes, it is usually rather cheap unless you're buying some salon grade, expensive stuff, but the cheap stuff works fine.
