Back onto topic, I'm currently drinking a Tuborg - which I've never had before (shut up, I know I'm uncultured) - it has a little bit of a... harsh taste, for lack of a better word; but overall definitely top notch, I'd give it 8/10.

The party at my house this weekend is going to feature (at least) kegs of Magic Hat #9, Sly Fox Stout, Dock Street Satellite Espresso Stout, Yuengling Black and Tan, Dogfishhead IPA, Flying Fish Abbey Dubbel, and Troeg's Nut Brown Ale, plus a quarter keg of some kind of lambic and a keg of cider. I think I might be leaving a few out too. (And another resident is mixing Knoxville Lemonade, but that's not for this thread.)

Need I say more? (Oh yeah, and the Magic Hat's going to be in my room. Having a full, tapped keg next to your bed is a great feeling and I only get it once a year.)

Oh, and to the three or four people who have expressed interest in coming ... all the kegs are upstairs and you need to be accompanied by a house resident in order to get up there, so PM me if you're interested in coming and want to sample our fine selection of booze, and we'll figure something out.

Which DFH IPA are you getting? The 90 minute is the best by far, but I imagine you're getting the 60. The 120 would be epic though.

If you really wanted class though, you'd get a keg of the Aprihop. I am drinking one right now and oh my fucking god is it boners.

Every alcohol tastes different though! The only thing I guess I'd say they all have in common is a burning or maybe tingling sensation. You how how something like Vicks Vapo-Rub smells? It tastes like that smells only not minty/eucalyptus-y. The cheaper it is, the harsher it is (you know, in general).

Also in general, darker colored alcohol (I'm talking about whisk(e)y and bourbon, really) is aged in wood (probably oak!) casks which give the alcohol a nice hearty wood flavor. Tequila, to me, tastes like how cardboard smells. Vodka doesn't have a flavor unless it's infused with something.

Of course, I'm not nearly as well versed as many of the other forum-goers on this subject so take that as you will!

Vodka has a recognizable taste once you drink too much of it. If you've ever drank straight vodka to the point of vomiting suddenly it has an easily recognizable taste and smell that will make you gag once you sense it. Or maybe that's just me and my bad vodka experience. Screwdrivers solve that, though.

I got a shipment of beer yesterday! It was full of really bomb cali microbrews that are not available in colorado! I am most psyched on the Bear Republic stuff, but I've also got some decent shit from Green Flash! Add that to my 4 pack of DFH aprihop and oh my god do I have delicious beer.

There's also an 18 of bud in my fridge, but that is for drunk not drinking.

Also lets be real here, Vodka is not disgusting. Like any alcohol, it sucks if you buy the shitty stuff, but if you spend the money, there is Vodka with amazing degrees of subtlety that will rock your fucking world. My advice to you is to stop drinking Stoli and Smirnoff and go buy a bottle of some really tasty imported Russian shit, throw it in your Freezer, and take a sip. The flavor profile ranges from creamy to bitter and it is all fucking delicious, real talk. Explore before you judge.

I have never really liked the taste of beer so I tend not to drink too much of it, but the pub I work in recently got Coors Light on draught and I've been drinking quite a bit of it lately. Its probably the fact that I don't drink much beer that I don't think it tastes as bad as you guys make out, but being a student and at £2.10 a pint I doubt I'd mind anyway.

Can we bring cider into this thread before the whole beer thing gets exhausted? I absolutely DESPISE all these shitty new 'Irish' ciders that are in vogue right now, and I'm really not too keen on Kopparberg either. It just pisses me off when you hear people say 'oh I like to drink cider' but when you say 'oh what ones do you like' they say 'Magners'.

Personally I drink Westons stuff, and at work we have this boxed cider by them called Old Rosie, a proper scrumpy cider, flat and cloudy. Only problem is at 7.3% more than a couple of pints at the start of a night does you in.

Coors Light has a fairly plain, simple, light taste. It's not bad, it's just a little bit bland. Which is probably why you (Blanktom) like it; you said you haven't really had a lot of beer before so you've not yet acquired the taste of stronger beers. Personally I find Coors Light great if I've been doing some sort of hard work and am just looking for something refreshing to cool off with.

As my last semester comes to a close, and my my bank account continually hovers around $100, I've had to make some changes to my alcohol consumption. Tanqueray has changed to Seagrams, and instead of Hoegaarden I switched to Michelob Amber Bock, which around here is a price cut of about 50%. While I'd rather be drinking my Belgian white, amber bock is tolerable, better than I expected to be honest.

I drink cider, though I'm partial to Woodchuck Amber, which is near impossible to find in this city. I can find Pear and Granny Smith, but Amber is virtually impossible. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of Kopparberg and Magners. Kopparberg has an aftertaste I'm not a huge fan of.

A thread about beer! Awesomeness

I am currently drinking Corona. Anyone who feels the need to accuse me of girliness may suck my ovaries. It is yummy. On occasion I like a nice Guinness. I was introduced to it by my one and only flatmate between living at home and moving in with my partner - it was awesome, we had knew each other from kickboxing so would meet up there and go home for a nice Guinness as our reward then perhaps some single malt on the weekends. I was living well above my means but it was quite fantastic for a while

Steinlager Pure is also quite wonderful. Marketed for NZers but I suspect it's somewhat like MacDonalds making burgers for every country they are in... same shite, different marketing. Nonetheless it is FAR superior to normal Steinlager.

I also like Macs Gold but find it a bit thin at the moment, and Monteiths Summer Ale but am finding that too damn sweet just now. Anyone who lives in NZ? Lion Red is THE DEVIL. Anyone old enough to have drunk Steinlager Blue? Sounds... bad. I'll just leave it at that.

Anyway. Beer is tasty and delicious yet it is strange how on a given day I can like one but not another, and sometimes none at all. It's damn awful for getting trollied IMO as it is way too much liquid for the alcohol content. I always found copious amounts of spirits more pleasant for such fun times. But then that was before drinking a bottle and a bit of tequila and ruining the best spirit ever, then doing similar for vodka, then gin... I'm pretty much down to a nice nip of whiskey and even then my body protests.

And yes, I am drunk and narcissistic enough to peruse the forums posting willy nilly with minimal reading of previous posts. I'm sure I'll be embarassed in the morning
