Ah, and why would you want a band that sounds like Neutral Milk Hotel when you already have NMH to listen to? Wouldn't you rather hear some suggestions of other bands that are somewhat similar in style/genre?

Deerhoof =/= NMH.
Both good bands, but nevertheless, they sound nothing alike. Other than mildly irritating vocals.

Jeff Magnum's voice kind of has to grow on you.  You learn to love it.  It's really dynamic and he can hold notes for quite a while.
