In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Tom:
I just tried doing it while pretending to Mangum, bloody hell that was fun.
Thrillho:
I am slightly confused, here. 'For such an influential album, it's not influenced many people.'
HEH?
gardenhead_:
Ok, I worded it pretty terribly. What I meant was, so many critics say it's one of the most influential albums of the 90's, and lots of artists cite it and NMH as an influence, but what I was saying is that it doesn't really translate into the music.
As I've been shown in this thread though is that I overlooked a lot of artists for some reason. I mean how the hell did i not draw the comparisons with Frog Eyes?
Thrillho:
Influence doesn't necessarily have to translate directly into the music. Quite apart from the fact that you can be influenced lyrically, loads of bands sound nothing like their influences. Can you hear The Cure in blink-182, or Deftones? Can you hear Missy Elliott in Eels? Can you hear Ice Cube in Weezer? There may be elements of it somewhere, but you'd never trace it directly.

No. I'd be glad not hearing blink 182 at all, though.
