You see, as I said before, I think the character's relationship perfect as it is as far as what I'd want from it. I'm a sap but in that case this entails an appreciation for what might have been, could never have been etc. rather than necessarily requiring conventional consumation. There's just something very true to life about two people connecting briefly and walking away. Sad, but hardly tragic, just sad the way life is kinda sad sometimes, but not in a bad way. I think it's very moving without being overly dramatic or weepy like some love stories (many old-fashioned ones, Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde) can be. Also the ambiguity of feeling I find to show human beings at their richer and more interesting when compared with the romantic passion and its attendant cliches. Hell, I like unconsumated romances, unclassifiable relationships and unrequited loves enough to even have enjoyed such things in my own life, though perhaps now that I have a 'normal' girlfriend it is easier to appreciate such things in hindsight.
