or No Doubt, for that matter?
I know people have already discussed this somewhat, but I've been thinking about this for a long time and I've come to this conclusion about No Doubt (I was a huge fan for a long time so I know what I'm talking about).
No Doubt made a steady decline from album to album, drifting away from ska a little bit more.
With their first one that they sold out of the back of a van, that was ska, with songs like Trapped in a Box... Tragic Kingdom, that also would be considered ska, with the brass, pounding bass, and crazy sounding vocals. Return of Saturn is the beginning of their transition to more pop-rock, it was also more mellow and used way more electronics than Tragic. And then finally, Rock Steady, they just went off the fucking deep end with that shit. I liked the album, but it was more influenced by the Jamaican house scene (that was where the went to record btw) than ska.
So there you have it. That's my analysis of the No Doubt music style.
