Yeah, it's a human interest story, and since it started in 2005 and carried on to this year it's not exactly "news." You want something reporting the story, the facts of the case probably boil down to a few paragraphs at most and don't require lengthy interview excerpts from most of the principals.
Those stories are also fucking boring and the front section of your newspaper is likely bogged down with those. This is an exploration of the human side of the event, and frankly I'm okay with the fact that the authorial bias - which was actually kept nicely under wraps - truly only leaks out in the last few paragraphs.
