I think they are.  I thought Pavement were still around?  Are they on a hiatus due to Stephen Malkmus doing his own thing or something?

Of my favorites, most of them are still around.  Ones that come to mind that are defunct are:

Bear vs. Shark
The Olivia Tremor Control
Braid
Seam
Superchunk
Faraquet
The Libertines
The Pixies
Jets to Brazil
Cap'n Jazz

Pavement stopped being around for a while, but it wouldn't surprise me if they've gotten over it. I don't think they've started recording or anything though.

But Stephen Malkmus has been fairly busy what with his solo stuff and the Silver Jews.

Well, Miles Kurosky is SUPPOSED to put out his first solo album this year, and it'll basically sound like Beulah anyway, so you have that to look forward to.
