I bet I could think of a few bands that would get to the top of this section with threads about them.
Pavement, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, The Pixies

There's really nothing left to say about any of those bands.
Daft Punk are at least still relevant.
Sort of.

Nothing wrong with electronica in general. Daft Punk are DANCE Electronica though, try some of the other 30,000 subgenres.

Ha ha. Ha. Daft Punk is far from 'dance'. They are pure house music, at least in their early days and some of Discovery. I don't know where the hell they went for Human After All, LOL.

But seriously folks, I am a huge DP fan (listening to Beta Wax at the moment) and I find it hard to hate most of their stuff (which is why I'm cringing at all of the hater posts! :p). If you're a DP newbie then you're allowed to hate HAA and Alive 2007 just because it is the most repetitive and grinding DP music, but it's still good in it's own way. The remixes of HAA kick ass (see: Erol Alkan's Horrorhouse Dub (Brainwasher), Vitalic Remix (Technologic)) and some Alive 2007 tracks are pure joy (see: Too Long/Steam Machine, Face to Face/Short Circuit, the big finale thing). But for casual listeners I can see how they could come off as bad.

That said, my least favorite DP songs are as follows:
Veridis Quo - It's not a TERRIBLE song, but it's just slow and boring and filler music for Discovery.
The Brainwasher - There is no rhythm and the Dalek going "I am braaaain waaaashherrr" gets incredibly annoying.
all the remixes from Daft Club (Chord Memory, Mothership Reconnection, Forget About the World) - They pale in comparison to some of DP's other remixes (see: Alive 2007).
Rollin' and Scratchin' - It's not terrible, but the screeching scratch synth thingy at the end drives me up a wall.
Rock and Roll - See above! It's like the end of R+S but extended over 7 minutes.

Oh, and I *used* to hate Technologic, Robot Rock etc. but they're fun to listen to in small doses. They also make great remix material.
I also used to hate Too Long and Teachers, but they are now like my favorite DP songs. Take that how you may.

Now back into the obscurity of the shadows...

How is "pure house music" not "dance"?

Not a big fan of Nightvision, Voyager, Veridis Quo or Too Long on Discovery. I like pretty much all of Homework. On first listen I wasn't big on Rock and Roll or Rollin' and Scratchin' either but now I think they're awesome.

Haven't listened much to Human After All but Make Love is boring and Robot Rock would be a lot better with just a tad more variation.

Also on Alive 2007 Around the World / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger is way overrated.

I'm not saying it isn't, just that "dance" is often thought of as A) music primarily to dance to and B) the crappy mainstream poppy gunk that permeates top 40 radio and electronic stations.

Alive 2007 is hit or miss on certain tracks. I think Around the World /HBFS is under 'miss'. But there are some tracks there that are made of pure awesome.

I agree, one of my favourites from Alive 2007 is the Human After All/Superheroes/Rock and Roll track.

I don't see how Daft Punk isn't music primarily to dance to, however! Sure it's great for close listening as well. But most things I think of when I hear "pure house music" are even more dance-not-listening-orientated than Daft Punk.

If you think Daft Punk isn't "music primarily to dance to," you are kidding yourself. On the other hand, I have never heard any of the Top 40 referred to as "dance music," even if people dance to quite a number of the songs because, well, they are incredibly popular songs that can be danced to effectively.

Also, I don't know about you guys but there is nothing about "Around the World/Harder Better Faster Stronger" that is overrated to me. I get chills every time I listen to the 4:44 mark, when the music cuts out to the line "Our work is never over," and am just so incredibly pumped to shake everything I've got afterward it's almost like I can actually dance.

The transition in the middle of the track (the quick cut to "work it") sounds awkward and forced, and the harmony is fucked for the second half of the song. Which sucks, because the original two tracks are two of my favourites.

The transition could have been better, but they pull it together somewhat as the synth comes in on a crescendo. I really don't know what you're talking about in the rest of the song though, I hear no problem with the harmony.

Maybe I should clarify that I think "Harder Better Faster Stronger" is a pretty boring dance song on its own, but with a far better vocal component than most Daft Punk songs; on the other hand, "Around the World" has one of Daft Punk's more interesting beats, but awfully annoying vocals. Combine the better parts of the both of them and I am slap-happy.

How can you not love 'Digital Love'? Except for the somewhat unnecessary guitar solo at the end it is made of pure awesome.

Just listened to that one for the first time in a while. Instant mp3 player download, hehe.
The Encore (Together, MSBWY, One More Time and Aerodynamic) isn't too shabby either.
I'm partial to FTF/Short Circuit, Too Long/Steam Machine and One More Time/Aerodynamic myself.

When the fat chicks at the parties you go to use it as an excuse to grind against everyone in sight.  Also when they go topless without having drunk anything in an obvious attempt to get dick.

I hate that cunt.

I am not sure that there is a single Daft Punk song that I "can't stand".  There are plenty that I can only listen to in moderation, but the rest are pretty good.

Also, what is up with some people having opinions that are different to mine?  Man, fuck you guys.  FUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU.
